Tulia Ackson da (Tanzânia) concorreu no pleito eleitoral, que decorreu à margem da 147.ª Assembleia da UIP, com as candidatas Adji Kanoute, do (Senegal), Catherine Hara, do (Malawi), e Marea Hagi da (Somália).
O português Duarte Pacheco é o presidente cessante da UIP, organização fundada em 1889, uma das mais antigas do mundo e actualmente conta com mais de 46 mil deputados de 179 parlamentos nacionais, promovendo a paz e a democracia
