The East African Railway Master Plan is a proposal for rejuvenating the railways serving Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda and adding railways to serve Rwanda and Burundi. The objective is to further the economic development of eastern Africa by increasing the efficiency and speed, and lowering the cost, of transporting cargo between major ports on the Indian Ocean coast and the interior.

All new railways will be standard-gauge, and existing narrow-gauge railways will be rehabilitated. The plan accounts for break of gauge issues and aims for a good interoperability within the resulting hybrid railway network. A later step would expand the eastern Africa railway network to South Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).[1] The plan is managed by infrastructure ministers from participating East African Community countries in association with transport consultation firm CPCS Transcom Limited.[2]

Presidents of East African Community (EAC) countries launched in Dar Es Salaam last week the construction of the East Africa’s Central Corridor railway line.

The multi-national railways will link the port of Dar Es Salaam with a number of land-locked countries in the region, namely Burundi, DRC, Rwanda and Uganda, for non-stop consignment of cargos.

It is estimated that consignment time will be reduce to two days from weeks currently. Except for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway line (Tazara), there is no effective regional railroad network within East Africa.

The national rail networks of the East African member states are mostly independent of one another and integration of East Africa’s rail systems is complicated by the use of different gauges in the subregion.

Kama target ni Congo , kulikuwa na haja gani kuipeleka Burundi na Rwanda tena kwa gharama kubwa sana?

Kwa nini tusingeboresha TAZARA na kufika Congo kirahisi sana?
Sehemu kubwa ya Congo ambayo tunaweza kuitumia kwa faida ya kiuchumi kwa miaka hii na ijayo ni hii iliyopakana na na Tanzania, Burundi na Rwanda.
Hata hivyo, bado fikra za viongozi wa Tanzania ni za kizamani za kuwaza mapambano ya kikabila na kikanda ndani ya nchi, kuwaza vyama na uchaguzi ujao badala ya kufikiria kuendeleza taifa kiuchumi kwa fursa zilizopo kupitia nchi jirani.
Siasa zetu zimejaa majinga yanayokariri ubeberu, tumenyonywa ( maneno ya kudai uhuru miaka 60 iliyopita) badala ya tufanye nini kwenye fursa za kimataifa.
 
Changamoto kubwa pia ni mradi wa nchi mbili.... kuwekana sawa imekuwa shida sana.
 
Hapa kwenye Tazara naitetea serikali,wakati wa awamu ya rais magufuli walikubaliana kila nchi kuchanga 10Bilion ili kufufua injini zilizokuwa zimekufa ambazo kwa Tanzania nyingi ziko Mbeya pale Iyunga.Serikali ya Tanzania ilitoa hela na zikafufuliwa Engine 7 lakini Zambia hawakutoa.Na mkumbuke kila kinachowekezwa kinakuwa mali ya nchi mbili.Sasa mnataka serikali itoe tuu hela ya walipa kodi wakati Zambia hawajihangaishi kugharamia hii reli? Mkataba unaipa nguvu Zambia sana kuliko sisi kwanza Mkurugenzi mkuu lazima atoke Zambia hili marehemu alipambana baadhi ya vipengele vibadilishwe ikiwemo hata la mkurugenzi awe mtu yeyote yule mwenye uwezo.Jambo lingine ni kila nchi iweze kuendeleza kipande chake au kwa maana nyingine Tanzania inaweza kununua Engine au Mabehewa yakawa yake yenyewe.Kwa jinsi ilivyo sasa kila ukinunua kitu ni mali ya nchi 2.Hata hivyo serikali inajitahidi sana ndio maana hata ile migomo ya wafanyakazi imekwisha tazara.
 
Viongozi wa serikali na wale wa TAZARA waliojiuzia nyumba wanaweza kweli kuwa na mawazo ya kuendeleza nchi au shirika?
Maendeleo huanzia kwenye fikra, halafu matendo.
