Mnamo Siku ya jumanne tarehe 23Oktoba 2013 kulitokea vurugu katika soko la kijiji cha Mziha kufuatia wananchi kugoma kulipa kodi. Siku iliyofuatia ya Jumatano askari mgambo walifika kijijini hapo na kutoza ushuru wananchi kwa nguvu. Hali hiyo ilipelekea kutokea vurugu kubwa baina ya wananchi na askari mgambo, lililopelekea mmoja wa mgambo kufariki dunia. Siku iliyofuata ya Alkhamisi Polisi wakavamia kijiji cha Mziha na kuanza kupiga watu hovyo hovyo. Na ndani ya siku ya Ijumaa kuanzia saa nne asubuhi Polisi walivamia kijiji cha Madina (Negelo) mbali kidogo na kijiji cha Mziha. Katika siku hiyo Polisi walifanya msako wa nyumba kwa nyumba wakiambatana na watu waliovaa kiraia ambao walionekana kana kwamba wakitowa muongozo na kuwasaidia Polisi. Ndani ya siku hiyo Polisi walipiga mabomu, kufyatua risasi ovyo ovyo na kupelekea watu kadhaa kuuwawa. Miongoni mwao ni Imamu wa Msikiti kijijini hapo Sheikh Ayyuba, Ustadh Khamis Ramadhan Samsuli, muumini mmoja na mtoto. (Alllah Awarehemu) Aidha, Polisi katika qadhia hii wamekamata wananchi wengi na kujeruhi wengi , huku majeruhi wakiondoka nao. Kama haitoshi katika siku ya Jumamosi na Jumapili Polisi wamerudi tena katika vijiji hivyo kuendelea kukamata kila mvaa kanzu na hijabu katika maeneo ya vijiji hivyo. Pia wamekuwa wakipekuwa kila gari kuwakamata waliovaa mavazi ya kanzu kwa wanaume, na hijabu kwa wanawake. Badhi ya wanawake wamekuwa wakivua hijabu ili kuokoa maisha yao. Aidha, wananchi wengi wamepotea na wengine wamekimbilia maporini kuokoa maisha. Na wanawake na watoto wamesambaratika na familia zao hususan baada ya kukichoma moto kijiji cha Madina.

the president to assent the bill) arrested Muslims suspected to be
‘terrorists.'

leaders who the government arrested for being ‘opponents' of the
government and ruling party the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

Among those arrested were leaders of various Muslim charitable organisations

social services to Muslims like building mosques, schools, orphanages etc.

These were targeted for being ‘terrorist sympathisers' or for being directly
involved in ‘terrorist activities' or for ‘providing logistic support to terrorists;'
and bank account of one prominent Muslim school – Al Furqan was frozen for
suspicion of being a conduit of funds from abroad to support terrorism.''

''Probably unknown to the United States, the government in Tanzania had
other reasons for passing the legislation completely unconnected with
terrorism.

The government was under pressure from Muslims to review the status quo.

The government was and still is functioning as a Christian establishment
completely marginalising Muslims.[1]

The Church particularly the Catholic Church is in control of the government
by proxy.

It controls 75% of the seats in the parliament. Among these seats Catholics
hold 70% and the rest are divided among Muslims and Christian of other
denominations.

Muslims controls mere 6% of the total seats in parliament.

Since independence in 1961 the Church was able to manipulate the political
system in such a way that, its influence permeates the state machinery,
mass media, higher institutions of learning, employment, promotion to political
office etc. etc.

It also has influence in the Executive, the Judiciary and most important it
controls the Parliament the highest law making body in the country.[2]

The government was engaged in its own silent war against Muslims who
were opposing Christian hegemony over the country and several times the
government had to use force, harassment and arrest of the Muslim leadership
in trying to contain the agitation.[3]

Corresponding to this awakening, Islam has gradually been gaining ground
over Christianity in Tanzania.

There is a noticeable number of Christians reverting back to Islam.[4]

The Church is facing opposition on two fronts.

It is facing Muslims on the political front agitating against the status quo
and on the second front there is Islam as a doctrinaire attacking the very
foundations of Christianity.

The Catholic Church is the most affected and naturally it is showing concern.

The government saw in the Act an opportunity it could manipulate in its
war against Muslims and roll back the tide of Islam in Tanzania.''

[1] The thrust and vision of the Church in East Africa was to turn Kenya,
Uganda and Tanganyika into Catholic states through control of indigenous
governments. The Church therefore established ‘The Islam in Africa Project'
with its headquarters in Kenya of which its specific aim was to convert Muslims
to Christianity. This project was under Rev. James Ritchie adviser to the
National Christian Council of Kenya. The White Fathers are in Tanzania
and are still involved in the work, which brought them to the country
more than a hundred years ago. The position of missionaries in Tanzania
has not changed as detailed above.

[3] This has to be seen with this background - Muslims have clashed
with riot police in Zanzibar (1988), Morogoro (1992), Mwanza (1983) and
several times in Dar es Salaam. In these clashes Muslims have been killed
and maimed. However not a single policemen has been prosecuted in a
court of law. The most saddening miscarriage of justice was in 1998 when
riot police smoke bombed the Mwembechai Mosque in Dar es Salaam in which
four Muslims were killed. Following the Mwembechai crisis many sheikhs were
arrested and put under custody without trail. In 2001 riot police attacked a
mosque in Zanzibar during ‘salat fajr' and the imam was killed. No investigation
was carried out and therefore no one was prosecuted for the killing. In parliament
debate on the Mwembechai crisis the parliament congratulated state organs
in the way they had effectively and decisively handled ‘Muslim fundamentalist.
The government statement went further it stated that in future such operations
to deal with ‘Muslim fundamentalists' would be carried out by Tanzania Peoples
Defense Force.Few months later all the officers who took part in the
Mwembechai operation were promoted and transferred to other areas for fear
of Muslim reprisals.

There was a little old cleaning woman that went to the local church. When the invitation was given at the end of the service, she went forward wanting to become a member. The pastor listened as she told him how she had accepted Jesus and wanted to be baptized and become a member of the church.

The pastor thought to himself, "oh my, she is so unkempt, even smells a little, and her fingernails are not clean. She picks up garbage, cleans toilets - what would the members think of her." He told her that she needed to go home and pray about it and then decide.

The following week, here she came again. She told the pastor that she had prayed about it and still wanted to be baptized. "I have passed this church for so long. It is so beautiful, and I truly want to become a member."

Again the pastor told her to go home and pray some more. A few weeks later while out eating at the restaurant, the pastor saw the little old lady. He did not want her to think that he was ignoring her so he approached her and said, "I have not seen you for a while. Is everything all right?"

"Oh, yes," she said. "I talked with Jesus, and he told me not to worry about becoming a member of your church."

"He did?" said the pastor.

"Oh, yes" she replied. "He said even He hasn't been able to get into your church yet, and He's been trying for years."

We all know as Muslims we shouldn't backbite yet sometimes we forget and other times we don't know we are actually backbiting.

In the Qur’an Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says “O you who believe! avoid most of suspicion, for surely suspicion in some cases is a sin, and do not spy nor let some of you backbite others. Does one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? But you abhor it; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, surely Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful.” [Al-Hujaraat: 12]

Also this authentic hadith (below) teaches us some more about backbiting and how easy it is to do it.
The Prophet (Salla Allahu 'Alayhee wa Sallam) was looking into marrying Safiyyah (Radhi Allahu 'Anhum). Aisha (Radhi Allahu 'Anhum) saw her yet out of natural jealousy really didn't want the Prophet to marry her. So the Prophet asked Aisha about her and Aisha said she was nice and everything was good about her, but then Aisha made a gesture with her hand to show that Safiyyah was short. In response to this the Prophet said just this gesture; if she were to put it into an ocean it would stain the whole ocean. [Sunan Abu Dawud, 41:4857]

Just this simple gesture which seems to many of us not to be backbiting was backbiting indeed and was a very serious thing. Many of us may be thinking what was the harm in this as it was only the truth. The reason the Prophet (Salla Allahu 'Alayhee wa Sallam) reprimanded Aisha was because it was meant as something bad, something to show that Safiyyah was not good enough and something that she would not want said about her. So the Prophet (Salla Allahu 'Alayhee wa Sallam) responded the way he did to show us that even this was wrong for her to do.

We also learn from another hadith that people who backbite often have hypocrisy in their hearts. In a rough translation of the hadith the Prophet (Salla Allahu 'Alayhee wa Sallam) said, “Oh you who don't believe totally in your hearts (have hypocrisy in their hearts), do not backbite or follow those people who backbite”. [Sunan Abu Dawud, 41:4862]

We learn from this hadith that we should not follow the people who backbite and we should not be one of those people. The Prophet (Salla Allahu 'Alayhee wa Sallam) is actually addressing those people who have hypocrisy in their hearts, to show how major of a sin this backbiting is. It is so major that a person who does it often can easily fall into hypocrisy, and if this continues can become a munafiq and fall out of Islam. So we must watch everything we do to ensure we are not transgressing on our fellow Muslims. We cannot transgress on a Muslim no matter what. This counts for his wealth and his honor. Backbiting falls into this, because it is transgression and can ruin a person’s honor and make them look bad. Also the above hadith shows we should not oppress a fellow Muslim, even with our tongue. We also cannot forsake him when he is oppressed by others. Meaning we cannot join in on the oppression or look down upon him because other people are backbiting on him or because others are oppressing him.
