Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa Shirika la Reli Tanzania (TRC), Masanja Kadogosa amesema Treni ya Reli ya Kisasa (SGR) imetumia umeme wa Sh336,000 katika safari ya abiria ya majaribio kutoka jijini Dar es Salaam mpaka Morogoro na kurudi leo Februari 26, 2024.

“Miundombinu ya treni ya umeme ni gharama kubwa ukilinganisha na ile ya inayotumia mafuta lakini kwenye gharama za uendeshaji wa treni ya mafuta ni mara tatu ukilinganisha na treni ya umeme,” amesema Kadogosa alipokuwa akifanya mahojiano na Wasafi FM.

Akizungumzia kuhusu nauli za abiria zitakazotumika, Kadogosa amesema shirika hilo limewasilisha mapendekezo yake kwa Latra yenye jukumu la kutangaza nauli hizo.

Ameongeza kuwa, upatikaaji wa mizigo mingi utachangia kupungua kwa nauli kwenye treni ya abiria na kufanya watu wengi wawe na uwezo wa kumudu bei za kupanda treni hiyo.

“Tunatarajia kupata fedha zaidi kwenye mizigo na ndio maana unaona tunajenga reli kwenda Msongati sababu kuna machimbo ya Nikel, tunakwenda kwa sababu tutapata mzigo kutoa kule na kupeleka bandarini. Upatikanaji wa mzigo ndio utatufanya tusiwe na bei kwenye treni ya abiria,” amesema.

Treni ya umeme ya abiria imefanya safari ya kwanza ya majaribio hii kutoka Dar es Salaam kwenda Morogoro huku ikitumia takribani saa nne kwenda na kurudi.

Trains, as a whole, are very efficient way of transporting passengers and good. This is the outcome of the fact that friction between rails and wheels is very low (unlike tyre and road) and thus energy required to keep the load in motion, once it has already set in motion is quite low.

As would be evident from above, the total amount of energy required for different types of trains is different. For freight trains which usually move long distances in one go before being pulled into siding for long hours for letting other trains pass by, the consumption of power is quite low. For long distance express trains which have relatively more stops, the consumption is comparatively high. For passenger trains or local trains which have stops every few kms the consumption is very high.

Since the length (and thereby weight) of trains varies considerable, rather than saying a particular class of train has so much consumption, IR generally uses a metric called as Specific Energy Consumption. The unit of SEC is GTKM or Gross thousand Tonnage per KM, which means that the energy mentioned is basically the no. of units required to move 1000 tonnes of load per km.

following are the figures for different classes of trains in units consumed for moving 1000 tonnes per km:
Goods train: 6–7 units per GTKM
Mail/Express train: 17–19 units per GTKM
Passenger trains: 26 units per GTKM
EMU (local trains): 40 units per GTKM

Wametumia masaa manne kwenda na kurudi morogoro , speed ambayo nadhani ni karibu na full speed ya hiyo treni
Lakini kama kadodosa ametoa hizo figures ilhali hawajafanya full test at full speed and maximum allowed weigjt basi atakuwa hayupo sahihi.

sasa yeye hakuwa na mizigo wala abiria katika train yake ya majaribio, he can not say anything about economic gain from this early test!
 
Ilibeba abiria kiasi gani? Matumizi ya umeme yanayegemea uzito uliobeba. Asije akafikiri umeme unaotumika kuendesha treni tupu ni sawa na ule wa kuendesha treni ambalo lina full load.

Electric Economy: 3 kWh per 100 passenger-km (full), 0.03 kWh/p.km
Hapo halikuwa na abiria kivile limekula umeme Ivo sasa ngoja liongeze mabehewa libebe na abiria uone umeme wake utakuwaje, bado linakula umeme Ilo kwa kuliangalia tu Kwanza lizito.

Kama mkurugenzi anasema gharama ya nishati ni ndogo na lengo ni kupata pesa kupitia kubeba mizigo, kwanini usafiri huo kwa abiria usiwe bure kabisa au ukawa sawa na bure kabisa (labda buku) ili watanzania wengi wafaidi matunda ya kodi zao?
