Actually the opposite is true for (i) that crisis would have availed an opportunity for many of the companies and institutions in Kenya to cross and establish themselves in Tanzania esp. in Arusha! If u remember the statement from the leadership at UNON they said they will decamp to Arusha if the violence and insecurity persisted! the only problem is we did not want to start hosting refugees from Kenya in our Northern circuit a plum of our tourism!

Those are statements from pipo who havent taken their time to critically analyse the possible ramifications of a war in Kenya. That the investors would simply pull out their capital and re domicile into Tanzania? That is a pack of bullsh1t, for Tanzania too would almost automatically be drawn into the crissis.
The investors would therefore be compelled transfer to another country, another region far away from the conflict as posssible, ie SA, Nigeria, Ghana....those would be the possible options for these companies.

An unstable Kenya affects Tanzania in a very great way, our ways are interconnected in ways you cannot imagine. Years back if you had asked me i would have told you an unstable Somalia is none of our business, now i know. Before Somalia went to the dogs it was an exception to see a gun in civilian hands in Kenya, now you can buy it literary from anywhere. So an unstable Kenya is bad news for Tanzania and vise versa just like all Syria neighbors are having the effect of the Syrian war. Usijudanganye ati mnaweza funga mipaka, it doesn't happen.

I dint say that the war would definately spill over into Tanzania, but the adverse effects would be felt or expected, which would then drive the investors in Tanzania into a panic mode (they too greatly depend on the Kenyan goods and services).
Tanzania relys on Kenya in soo many ways, (like I had pointed out, Tanzania's economy just like all the other countries in the region is still greatly anchored to Kenya). Should Kenya get into a civil conflict, the impact would reverberate all over the region. Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and DRC would ofcoss be the first to feel the impact. The shortage of essential goods and services would be galore, which would then drive all these countries into a state desperation. Conflict of survival would then ensue as a consequence.
Would Tanzania's economy operate in such chaos?

Then, with the militants struggling to widen their span of operation, probably globally and take over this world; a weak, conflict ridden Kenya and the wider East Africa would definately attract these other elements into the conflict. Al shabaab and the Islamic State,will try to replace the fleeing investors into setting up base in the region. The Investors in Dar would then grow even more jittery.
Sensing a threat to their national security, the Tanzanian administration would then be drawn into the war, by trying to get
rid of this particular elements (terrorists) out of the conflict, to which ofcoss, they would have to pay the heavy price.

Kenya will donate iron sheets, blankets and mattresses to Tanzania in disaster assistance following the deadly earthquake on Saturday.

The materials will be airlifted by the Kenya Defence Forces on Tuesday to assist those affected by the disaster.

On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta phoned President John Pombe Magufuli to express solidarity and sympathy to the Tanzanian government and its citizens following the loss of lives, injuries and destruction of property resulting from the earthquake.

“I have learnt with deep sorrow and regret the loss of sixteen precious lives, injury to hundreds of our Tanzanian brothers and sisters, as well as massive destruction of property and livelihoods following the devastating earthquake in Bukoba District, in North Western Tanzania,” President Kenyatta said.

He added: “On behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and people of Tanzania, and particularly to the grieving families.”

President Kenyatta wished those injured quick recovery and prayed to God to comfort the bereaved families.

Thank God the military wasnt involved during that conflict. I hear the military itself was also pretty much as polarized as the citizens throwing stones in the streets. There was a camp that supported the opposition whilst the other the govt.
