Ngoja nikwambie kitu, no any country that can succeed in isolation. After the second world war the European economy had totally collapsed and they only needed the famous "Marshall Plan" to return their battered economies back on track.
The economic input that the US put on the 17 European Countries that led to the recovery of the economies of those countries made them to maintain landmark ties with the US politically, economically and socially.
Needless to say, the countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Germany etc couldn't have attained the level of economic prosperity they currently enjoy without massive foreign investment mainly from USA and if they could pursue the self isolating policy like one you're advocating, they could not have achieved the economic milestone of today.
I believe, in most uncertain terms, that had Iran not have a chilly relationship with the US, the country's level of development would have surely been at par with that of South Korea or even surpassed.
