Anfield concern as owners lose £41m

LIVERPOOL’S owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett suffered a £41million loss – mainly due to interest payments on the debts they took on to buy the club, accounts released last night reveal.

The club’s accountants have also warned that remaining uncertainty over refinancing the £350million debt before the July 24 deadline “may cast significant doubt on the group’s and parent company’s ability to continue as a going concern”.

Although Hicks and Gillett say they are confident of securing a refinancing deal, the figures reveal the financial success of the football club is being swallowed up by the cost of servicing the parent company’s loans.

The accounts for the year ending July 2008 showed Liverpool made a £10.2million pre-tax profit but the parent company Kop Football (Holdings) Ltd made a substantial pre-tax loss of £41million, mainly due to interest payments totalling £36.5million.

The club’s accountants KPMG LLP also expressed a warning in their notes in the filed accounts.

The accountants said: “The group has credit facilities amounting to £350million which expire on January 24 2009. The directors have initiated negotiations to secure the replacement finance required by the group and these negotiations are ongoing.

“These conditions... indicate the existence of a material uncertainty which may cast significant doubt on the group’s and parent company’s ability to continue as a going concern.”

The club’s turnover was a record £159.1million compared to £133.9million the year before, with a pre-tax profit of £10.2million.

That was reflected by a similar turnover for Kop Football (Holdings) of £161.8million – most coming from the football club – but the overall pre-tax loss of £41million.

Hicks and Gillett have been scouring the globe to find investors keen on putting money into the club but so far without success.

It is not Hicks’ only problem – he has said he is prepared to sell a majority shareholding in his Texas Rangers baseball team after the Hicks Sports Group in April defaulted on £325million (525million US dollars) in loans relating to that team and his Dallas Stars ice hockey side.

Sean Hamil, a lecturer at the University of London’s Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, said: “Any company, never mind a sports company, which is not able to cover interest from operating activities has three options: refinance, get new equity investors, or sell ito somebody who is prepared to absorb the debt and start from scratch.”

Source, the goalposts blogspot

In short Gillets and HIcks wamlishafulia, ila egos ziliwadanganya na hadi waarabu wakati wanataka timu wao walidhani wako juu.... Too sad hili litaua mipango ya usajili kama hawatauza or get loan replacement facility by July!! the good thing though ni kwamba timu kama timu iko fizuri kwenye madaftari

If we dont kill those yankeey we will end up like the geordies

YNWA

huzeni club hio

AW (i hope sio yule Mr. Bean wa Arsenali, Iuzwe mara ngapi? si ndio Gillet na HIcks walinunua?? labda wauze kwa mara ya pili... Sadly ni kwamba the "club itself generated over 10M pounds profit ila owners ndio wanatia hasara kwenye kampuni mama

...Damn the squirrels!!!!!!!!!!

Reds first-team coach fails to rule out transfer

Liverpool coach Mauricio Pellegrino has failed to rule out the possibility of Javier Mascherano leaving Anfield.

The Argentina midfielder is said to be a target of Barcelona and it is claimed his agent, Walter Tamer, met with officials of the Spanish club on Wednesday.

Reds manager Rafa Benitez is adamant that Mascherano will not depart the side as he sees the 25-year-old as a vital component of his squad.

However, Pellegrino concedes 'anything is possible' in football, as Barca and also Real Madrid continue to be linked with an offer for Mascherano's services.

"Every time negotiations are underway, money always makes the decision," Pellegrino told sport.es.

"Anyway, Mascherano is such an important player for us, like other ones can be for Barca.

"I do not want to say anything about it because we already know that in football's world, nothing is impossible." 😕😕

Wakuu wa LIverpool mpo au mmekufa???

Glenn Johnson has been signed, any sign of improvement?? we are also retaining Masch and Xabi

heheheh...tatizo wanatamaa hawajuzi zilimponza fisi

Thanks Komamanga... sidhani kama ni tamaa, i guess its the strategy to coply with FIFA/UEFA/FA advice/directive!!! home grown players are now protected hence thir value gets higher (even though UK has expensive players anayway)

Je hiyo tamaa ni kama ile ya kumsajili Berba kwa 30M pounds? au Nigel DeJOng kwa 17M pounds...?

Yeah... its a little bit cocky to sign Glen for 18M pounds!! Tatizo ni zile FIFA na UEFA rules; Arbeloa is more likely to join Madrid and Carragher will be a back-up right full back as he used to do before
Akiondoka Arbeloa itabidi mtafute beki mwingine wa kati kumbuka SAMMY HYPIA nae kaondoka so mabeki wa kati wamebaki Agger na Skirtel
Wachezaji wa Kiingereza sio bei rahisi ndio maana Arsenal hawasajili waingereza

More Misery for the KOPS

ALonso, Arbeloa, Hyppia all gone.... MAsch also half way out!!

Xabi Alonso appears ready to leave Liverpool
Tony Evans, Gary Jacob

Liverpool placed a £35 million valuation on Xabi Alonso last night after the Spain midfield player said his goodbyes to some members of the club's staff. However, Real Madrid, with whom the player has been linked, have not yet made an official offer.

Alonso's relationship with Rafael Benítez has been troubled since the Liverpool manager began his pursuit of Gareth Barry last year. Although Benítez wants to keep the 27-year-old, there is a growing acceptance at Anfield that the player is likely to move to Real.

Benítez has justified paying up to £18.5 million to Portsmouth for Glen Johnson, who has joined on a four-year contract, because the right back was English. The manager has offered a new contract to Álvaro Arbeloa, who has one year left on his deal, but is also wanted by Real.

“We knew the market was going to be difficult this summer and some of it has been crazy,” Benítez said. “We could buy one more player without selling anyone.”

Kwa wale wapenzi wa bwawa la maini.... Luis Garcia may join Everton on a free transfer this summer. Two bitter nails first owen to Manure then Garcia to the Toffees

If this is true.... Rafa's tactics are likey to open book

Hahaha, RB ukimtibua lazima akupandishie si unaona issue yake na Gareth Barry, Yani hasira zake kwa SAF zitaisha Liverpool wakiifunga Man U au wakichukua ubingwa.

Hivi Torres hauzwi?
