Hizi ndizo taarifa kutoka vyanzo nilivyovipata hadi sasa China signs deal to upgrade decades-old railway between Zambia and Tanzania na China to 'revitalise' ageing railway linking Zambia, Tanzania.

The upgrade of the TAZARA railway by China will focus on improving the existing meter-gauge railway (MGR) infrastructure. This includes enhancing the tracks, signaling systems, and rolling stock to increase efficiency and capacity. The goal is to boost the rail-sea transportation network in East Africa, particularly aiding Zambia’s copper exports.

Lengo kubwa la reli ya TAZARA ni usafirishaji wa mizigo na sio abiria lakini ingekuwa vizuri ikawa SGR, upana huu huwezesha treni zenye mwendo na uzito mkubwa zaidi kupita. CCM mpo wapi?!
Mkuu hilo la kuimarisha reli ili iweze kutumika tena kwa faida ni jambo la msingi.
Kuna watu wanadai eti tusiikubali relilazima iwe na viwango vya SGR.
Hilo haliwezekani maana ni kama unataka mzee wa miaka 50 mwenye kiuno inchi 38, avai jeans ya kiuno inchi 20!!!!
Anaweza kuvaa lakini jeans itatatuka na hatkuwa na mwendo, maana hata sehmu nyeti zimebana vibaya!

Miaka zaidi ya 50 iliyopita Wachina walitujengea reli hii ikiwa bora kuliko ya mkoloni (reli ya kati). Wakatukabidhi nchi mbili (Tanzania & Zambia) ili tuitunze na kuiendesha. Leo tunawarudia tena waje kuiboresha? Sisi Waafrika, ni jambo gani tunaweza kulisimamia kwa ubora?

Kujenga reli kwa ajili ya treni inayotumia dizeli kwenye karne hii ya 21 tena kwa mkopo ni ujuha ukiotukuka.

Kwa kosa hili hatutasamehewa kamwe na vizazi vinavyokuja. Hapa ndo ninapomkubali Magufuli alipowakatalia wachina walipotaka kumjengea reli ya treni ya dizeli akabadilisha kila kitu na akawachukua waturuki wakamjengea ya umeme.

Reli hujengwa kwa ajili ya kusafirisha mizigo, abiria ni nyongeza tu, hata hii ys sgr lengo lake ni mizigo isipokuwa kwa ujinga wetu viongozi wanatuaminisha ni kwa ajili ya abiria jambo ambalo silo.

The TAZARA has a track gauge of 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm), also known as the Cape gauge, which is widely used throughout southern Africa.[16] TAZARA connects to the Cape-gauge Zambia Railways at Kapiri Mposhi. The remainder of Tanzania’s railways have 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge tracks.[17] A transshipment station with a break of gauge station was built in Kidatu in 1998.[17]

Except for the rail gauge, TAZARA generally reflects Chinese railway standards of the 1970s. The technical characteristics of the line were:

  2. Brakes: Air/vacuum[19]
  3. Axle loading: 20 metric tons[19]
  4. Sleepers: Concrete on main line, Wood at turnouts and on bridges[19]
  5. Rail: High-manganese steel, 45 kg/m (90 lb/yard), mostly jointed[20]
  6. Signals: Semaphore
  7. Design speed: 110 km/h (70 mph)[21]
  8. Design capacity: 5 million metric tons per year[5]
  9. Loading gauge: Limited by 22 tunnels in the Udzungwa Mountains

Kwasababu spec zinasema SGR ni 1435mm ila MGR ni 1000mm, hiyo ya TAZARA ni Cape gauge ambayo ni 1067mm.
Given that the maximum safe speed on 1067 mm gauge railway lines is 140 km/h, and on 1435 mm gauge lines is 350 km/h, would 1372 mm gauge lines be able to handle regular services at 180 km/h or 200 km/h?

Tumeajiri wasomi na wataalamu wa maswala ya railway.

Surely hawa watu wana mikakati ya kibiashara ya muda mrefu ya nchi. Kipi bora kuwa na standardised railway line. Ambayo ata uko mbele ukiamua kuifanyia electrification uhitaji kubadili railway line au kupokea misaada ya kipuuzi tu.

Kuna documentary luluki tu za ‘abandoned engineering’ ya railway line zilizokufa kufa ambazo zinaunganisha nchi mbili kisa differences of choices on railway lines ambazo azinguzingatia long term commercial goals.

Halafu wachina wakishatoa hela yao sio watu wa kusamehe deni. Ata kwenye debt crises za 80’s and 90’s Tanzania ilipofutiwa madeni ya nchi tajiri (wazungu) na kubakiza madeni ya kibiashara (ya mabenki). Nchi pekee ambayo aikusamehe deni lake (kwa uwekezaji wa TAZARA) ilikuwa China.

Sasa you hope hao hakina Kadogosa wanamipango yao ya muda mrefu kwenye hiyo mikataba na sio wanachukua hiyo mikopo kwa mipango ya China. Vinginevyo huko mbele walipaji watajuta.
