Du umenikumbusha mbali, afadhali ya Kilwa, kwa mujibu wa mwandishi, Ibin Batuta, Hasan Bin Amiri alikinunua kisiwa cha Kilwa kwa gharama ya kitambaa kilichozunguka Kilwa yote, yaani there were some exchange of some sort!. Huyu mvamizi Mwarabu dhalimu, aliibaka Zanzibar na kujitwalia kama ameokota, Mapinduzi yale Matukufu yalimtimua mvamizi Mwarabu dhalimu yule na nchi kushikwa na wenyewe!.
Hivyo nyingi ya hizi kelele za kuyapinga Mapinduzi Matukufu ya Zanzibar, ni vitimbakwiri masalia tuu ya Mwarabu dhalimu!.

YAFUATAYO ni masimulizi mafupi ya kipindi kifupi cha Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar ya Januari, 1964 yaliyoipindua serikali ya ubia ya chama cha Zanzibar Nationalist (maarufu Hizbu) na kile cha Zanzibar and Pemba People's Party (ZPPP). Tunaangazia nini hasa kilitokea usiku wa Jumamosi Januari 11, yaliyojiri siku ya pili yake na mwezi mzima wa Januari, mwaka 1964 .
Tumeyakusanya masimulizi haya baada ya kuzungumza na walioshiriki katika Mapinduzi hayo ambao baadaye walisaidia kudhibiti madaraka na kuunda taasisi zilizoziba pengo la Serikali iliyopinduliwa ya Waziri Mkuu, Muhammed Shamte Hamadi.
Usiku wa manane wa Januari 11, makada wapatao 200 wa Umoja wa Vijana wa Afro-Shirazi (Afro-Shirazi Youth League) walielekea kwenye kambi ya polisi ya Ziwani, nje kidogo ya mji huko Unguja.
Wakiongozwa na Yusuf Himid wapinduzi hao hawakukabiliwa na upinzani walipofika Ziwani ila waliikuta ghala ya silaha iko wazi na wakazinyakua silaha na kukimbia nazo hadi kwenye uwanja ulio nje ya jengo la Raha Leo.
Hapo ndipo palipokuwa makao makuu ya Mapinduzi kwa siku chache na ndipo wapinduzi walikokuwa wakipewa silaha. Studio za redio ya Serikali pia zilikuwa hapo.
Moja ya sababu zilizoyafanya Mapinduzi yafanikiwe haraka ni uamuzi wa viongozi wa Serikali iliyopinduliwa - Sheikh Muhammed Shamte na Sheikh Ali Muhsin Barwani - kuwataka wafuasi wao wasitumie nguvu kuyapinga.
Hivyo, mbali na mapigano yaliyozuka saa za asubuhi ya Jumapili Januari 12, mbele ya Steshini ya Polisi Malindi, hapajazuka mapigano Unguja kati ya waliopindua na waliopinduliwa. Pemba nako pia hakukuwa na upinzani ijapokuwa kisiwa hicho kilikuwa ngome ya vyama vya ZNP na ZPPP.
Wengi wa wapiganaji waliokuwa kwenye Stesheni ya Polisi ya Malindi walikuwa wakuu wa polisi Wakiingereza. Wakipigana na makada wa Umma Party ambao ndio pia waliouteka uwanja wa ndege, bandari pamoja na kituo cha mawasiliano ya nje cha Cable & Wireless, kilichokuwa kwenye jengo ambalo sasa ni Hoteli ya Serena Mji Mkongwe.
Kwa hakika, kinyume cha baadhi ya watu walivyoandika hapakutokea mauaji ya kimbari. Aliyeanzisha uvumi huo alikuwa John Okello aliyeandika kwenye kitabu chake kuhusu Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar kwamba watu zaidi ya elfu kumi waliuliwa. Okello aliongeza kwamba aliamrishwa na Yesu Kristo kuwakomboa ‘Waafrika' wa Zanzibar kutoka kwa ‘wageni'.
Tutamrejelea Okello na wengine waliokuwa Raha Leo baadaye. Kwanza tukumbushe kwamba mkesha wa Januari 12, mwaka 1964, Zanzibar haikuwa na jeshi. Kulikuwa polisi waliokuwa wakiongozwa na Waingereza. Wengi wa askari polisi walikuwa raia wa Tanganyika. Serikali iliyopinduliwa ilikataa kuandikiana mkataba wa kijeshi na Uingereza kwa sababu ikihisi mkataba kama huo utaonekana kuwa wa kikoloni.
Hatuwezi kusema ni nani hasa aliyepiga risasi ya mwanzo au ya mwisho katika Mapinduzi. Naitoshe tusemapo kwamba kwa vile hakukuwa na upinzani, Serikali iliyokuwa madarakani iliporomoka kama ‘nyumba ya karata'.
Tuwarejelee sasa waliokuwa Raha Leo, makao makuu ya Mapinduzi kwa siku chache. Kwanza tumuangalie Okello ambaye sauti yake ndiyo iliyokuwa ikivuma kwenye Redio Zanzibar.
Hatuna uhakika nani alimpeleka Okello Raha Leo. Wengine wanasema ni Yusuf Himidi. Wengine wanasema ni Seif Bakari aliyetoa rai atumiwe kutoa matangazo kwenye redio kwa vile sauti yake ilikuwa na lafudhi ngeni ya kutisha.
Uhakika tulio nao ni kwamba Okello alipotokea Raha Leo na mabastola yake, Aboud Jumbe alishtuka na akauliza: "Nani huyu? Katokea wapi?"
Kijana huyo aliyekuwa na umri wa miaka 27 hakujulikana kabla ya Mapinduzi. Alikuwa mtu asiyejua kuandika wala kusoma na akili zake zikimtosha mwenyewe. Hakuwa na sifa za uongozi na wala hakushiriki katika vuguvugu lolote la kisiasa.
Akijibandika cheo cha kijeshi cha Field Marshall ni yeye aliyetangaza kwamba serikali ya ZNP/ZPPP imepinduliwa.
Kwa hakika, kazi hiyo ya kutangaza kufanikiwa kwa Mapinduzi kwanza alipewa Ramadhan Haji, mmoja wa wapinduzi. Lakini alikataa. Jina la Okello lisingelisikika lau Ramadhan Haji angekubali kutangaza kwamba Serikali imepinduliwa na kwamba wapinduzi waliidhibiti nchi.
Waliokuwa wakiongoza mambo Raha Leo tangu Mapinduzi yaanze, hadi Jumatatu Januari 13, walikuwa Aboud Jumbe, mmoja wa viongozi wa chama cha Afro-Shirazi (ASP), Thabit Kombo (Katibu Mkuu wa ASP) na Badawi Qullatein wa Umma Party. Muda wote huo, Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume (kiongozi wa ASP), Abdulrahman Babu (mwenyekiti wa Umma Party) na Abdalla Kassim Hanga (ASP) walikuwa Dar es Salaam.
Mnamo siku hizo hizo liliundwa Baraza la Mapinduzi na Baraza la Mawaziri lililokuwa na mamlaka kamili ya kuiendesha Zanzibar. Mabaraza hayo mawili yalikuwa taasisi kuu za Serikali ya kimapinduzi ya Jamhuri ya Watu wa Zanzibar. Na sio ile iitwayo ‘Kamati ya Watu Kumi na Nne' ambayo baadhi ya watu wanasema kuwa ndiyo iliyoandaa Mapinduzi.
Okello akipenda kujigamba kwamba ndiye aliyeyapanga na kuyaongoza Mapinduzi. Alikuwa akitoa matamshi ya kushtusha na ya ajabu-ajabu kwenye Redio Zanzibar. Kwa mfano, siku moja alidai kwamba alipwe mshahara mkubwa zaidi ya aliokuwa akilipwa Rais Karume. Siku nyingine akasema kwamba kasri zote alizokuwa akitumia sultani kupumzikia apewe yeye.
Kuna siku aliyotoa hukumu kwamba mzee mmoja wa zaidi ya miaka 60 afungwe kwa miaka 99. Alisema kama huyo bwana atakufa gerezani basi mwanawe afungwe ili kuendeleza kifungo na mwanawe akifa basi mjukuu wake afungwe mpaka itimie miaka 99.
Nyakati nyingine aliwaonya watu wazitie moto familia zao na wao wenyewe mpaka wafe ‘kabla ya majeshi yangu kuja.' Alikuwa akitoa vitisho visivyowahi kamwe kusikika Zanzibar.
Kuna siku alitangaza kwamba wakazi wa eneo moja ambako alikuwa apite, wajipange foleni barabarani wakiwa wamevaa chupi tu.
Okello alikuwa ni adha, kitisho, kichekesho na fedheha kwa Zanzibar. Viongozi wapya wa nchi walichoka naye na wakaamua kumchukulia hatua. Salim Rashid, mmoja wa viongozi wa Umma Party aliyekuwa katibu wa Baraza la Mapinduzi anasema kwamba, kwanza alilizungumza suala la Okello na Sheikh Karume. Halafu akalizungumza na Brigadia Yusuf Himid na mwisho yeye, Yusuf Himid na Kanali Ali Mahfoudh wakalitafutia dawa.
Ilisadifu kuwa siku moja Okello alisafiri kwenda Dar es Salaam akifuatana na Jaha Ubwa, aliyekuwa katibu wake. Walipokuwa wanatarajiwa kurudi Zanzibar, Karume, Yusuf Himid, Salim Rashid na Ali Mahfoudh walikwenda uwanja wa ndege kumsubiri.
Siku hiyo anaikumbuka vizuri Luteni Hashil Seif aliyekuwa ofisa wa zamu kwenye kambi ya jeshi huko Migombani karibu na uwanja wa ndege. Alipigiwa simu akitakiwa aende kwa haraka uwanja wa ndege. Hakuambiwa anaitiwa nini.
Alipofika ndipo alipoambiwa kwamba kuna ndege ya Shirika la Ndege la Afrika ya Mashariki iliyokuwa inakuja kutoka Dar es Salaam ndani yake wakiwemo pia Okello na Jaha Ubwa. Akaelezwa kwamba awaruhusu abiria wote pamoja na Ubwa washuke, lakini amzuie Okello asishuke. Halafu amwambie rubani ampeleke Okello Kenya.
Hashil naye akampigia simu komredi mwenzake Luteni Amour Dugheshina kumwita aende uwanja wa ndege amsaidie. Maluteni wote wawili walikuwa na bunduki za aina ya ‘machine gun'.
Ndege ilipotua walipanda ndani ya ndege, wakampokonya silaha Okello na kutekeleza amri waliopewa. Rubani wa ndege alikasirika sana. ‘Uso wake ulighadhibika, utafikiri mnyama aliyekosewa risasi,' alieleza Hashil.
Lakini rubani hakuwa na la kufanya ila kuiwasha ndege na kuelekea Kenya.
Huku nyuma Salim Rashid akampigia simu Oginga Odinga, Makamu wa Rais wa Kenya, kumuarifu kwamba wamemfukuza Okello na ‘wanamrejesha' Kenya. Alifanya hivyo kwa makosa kwa sababu kutokana na jina lake akifikiri kuwa Okello ni Mjaluo kutoka Kenya.
Kumbe alikuwa mtu wa kabila la Acholi aliyezaliwa Uganda na alikwenda Unguja kabla ya kuhamia Pemba ambako alikuwa mwashi, mtiaji rangi nyumba na mpasuaji mawe.
Swali la kujiuliza hapa ni; je, iwapo kweli Okello alikuwa ‘kiongozi mpendwa wa Mapinduzi' ilikuwaje wafuasi wake na wanamapinduzi wenzake wasimtetee alipoadhiriwa uwanja wa ndege na kufukuzwa nchini? Ilikuwaje akafukuzwa kwa urahisi hivyo?
Kuna uzushi mwingi kuhusu kipindi hiki kifupi cha historia ya Zanzibar. Kwa mfano, kuna filamu ya kubuni ya Wataliana inayoonyesha maiti chungu nzima za watu waliopigwa risasi. Filamu hiyo ilikuwa na lengo moja tu; kuonyesha ‘ukatili na unyama wa Waafrika.'
Hakuna ithibati yoyote kwamba watu waliouawa katika siku za mwanzo za Mapinduzi walifika elfu kumi. Ukweli ni kwamba jumla ya watu waliouawa siku hizo haipindukii 200, katika sehemu za mjini hawazidi 25.
Uzushi mwingine ni kwamba walipelekwa Watanganyika, Zanzibar wakiwa na silaha kwenda kupindua. Na si kweli kwamba Mapinduzi yalikuwa na msisitizo wa kikabila. Katika kipindi cha mwanzo cha Mapinduzi msisitizo ulikuwa wa kitabaka. Nyimbo zilizokuwa zikiimbwa kwenye Redio Zanzibar zikiwazungumzia ‘wakwezi na wakulima' na wafanyakazi kwa jumla na si makabila.
Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar yalianzisha taasisi mpya za utawala zikiwa pamoja na Baraza la Mapinduzi, Baraza la Mawaziri na ofisi ya Rais. Taasisi hizo zilikuwa zifanye kazi kwa muda wa mwaka mmoja tu kwa vile ilikwishaamuliwa kwamba Januari 1965 pafanywe uchaguzi wa kulichagua Bunge la Katiba, lililokuwa litunge Katiba ya kudumu ya Zanzibar.
Baraza la Mapinduzi la Zanzibar pamoja na Serikali mpya zilianza kwa ubia baina ya chama cha ASP na Umma Party. Ingawa wanachama wa ASP ndio waliofanya Mapinduzi waliutambua mchango wa wafuasi wa Umma Party na hasa mchango wa makada wao waliopata mafunzo ya kijeshi nchini Cuba.
Vijana hao wa Umma walizitia wasiwasi serikali za Marekani na Uingereza na kuzifanya ziamini kuwa utawala mpya wa Zanzibar ulikuwa wa ‘kikomunisti'. Dhana hiyo ndiyo iliyosababisha kuchukuliwa hatua ya kuyachimba na kuyagandamiza Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar yaliyodumu kutoka Januari 12, hadi 26 Aprili, mwaka 1964.

Mkuu Pasco nimekupa ushauri tumia lugha ya stara kwenye huu mnakasha watu wapate kujifunza kitu lugha za kejeli dhiaka wote tunazifahamu usilazimishe tufike huko, siyo mbaya kama utataka hivyo.

Kushindwa nako kunamuumiza ndio maana Pasco anakosa adabu za kushemu watu. Angalikuwa na adabu au kafunzwa adabu asingali tumia kejeli pale anaposhindwa.

Ndio maana kule wanakojivunia serikali TBC eti kwenye ukweli na uhakika walimfukuza muungwana Tido Muhando wakaleta kina Pascuali usishangae walimchomea vijiti wao.

Khaa!! Tofauti Ulaya na America ambapo Wafrika waliruhusiwa kuzaana wenyewe kwa wenyewe, Arabuni Wanaume walihasiwa (kwa kukatwa kengele) ila wanawake waliachwa na walitumika kama chombo cha starehe. Wengi wao waliuawa baada yakupata mimba wachache waliachwa na ndiyo kizazi cha nusu uarabu kinachoonekana leo huko.

How to Keep a Slave

in Ancient Rome, 170 BC
The institution of slavery provided a critical pillar that supported the existence of both the republican and empire phases of ancient Roman society. The size of this slave population is estimated in the millions, and comprised between twenty-five and thirty percent of the total Roman population. The majority of these men, women and children worked on the farm - tilling the soil and reaping the harvest. Others, however, labored as artisans, scribes or secretaries.

The Roman slave had no rights. They could not marry nor have a traditional family many did not even have a name. Slaves could not own property. Most had been captured during the various wars that Rome engaged in. The enemies of Rome were well aware that if captured, their inevitable destination was the slave-market. Many chose suicide as an escape.

Roman slaves did sometimes attempt to rebel against their masters and gain their freedom. The most famous incident was in 73-71 BC when the gladiator Sparticus defied his master and instigated a revolt in central Italy that eventually gathered thousands of fellow slaves to his ranks. This slave army enjoyed initial success by defeating several legions sent to destroy it. Sparticus and his followers even threatened Rome itself. However, Sparticus eventually lost his life in battle and several thousand of his followers were crucified.

A Manual for Keeping Slaves, 170 BC

Cato the Elder (234 BC–149 BC) was a Roman statesman, general and author. In approximately 170 BC he put to paper some advice on the care and handling of slaves. His words offer us some insight into the role of the slave in Ancient Rome:

Food Ration
For the actual laborers four pecks of wheat in the winter months, and four and a half in summer. The overseer, housekeeper, foreman and head-shepherd should receive three pecks. The chain-gang should receive four pounds of bread a day in winter, five from the time when they begin to dig the vines until the figs start to ripen, and then back to four again.

Wine Ration
For three months after the harvest, they should drink rough wine. In the fourth month, half a pint a day, or about two gallons a month. For the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth months, the ration should be a pint a day, or four gallons a month. For the remaining four months, give them one and a half pints a day, or six gallons a month. For the feasts of the Saturnalia and Compitalia (December) there should be an extra ration per man of two and a half gallons. The total wine issue per man for a year should be about forty-two gallons. An additional amount can be given as a bonus to the chain-gang, depending on how well they work. A reasonable quantity for them to have to drink per annum is about sixty gallons.

Olive Ration
Keep all the windfall olives you can. Then keep the ripe olives from which only a small yield could be gained. Issue them sparingly to make them last as long as possible. When the olives are finished, give them fish-pickle and vinegar. Give each man a pint of oil a month. A peck of salt should be enough for a man for a year.

Clothes
A tunic three and a half feet long and a blanket-cloak every other year. When you issue a tunic or cloak, take in the old one to make rough clothes. You ought to give them a good pair of clogs every other year.

[h=1]Did the Catholic Church Have a Hand in The Slave Trade? Treating Blacks & Other Ubelieving Races as Inferior?[/h] In the 1400's the Portuguese crown explored the African coast. During this period, commonly regarded as portending the age of exploration and Discovery and European colonialism in the word, the kings of various European nations sought justification for their actions to legitimize their prizes.

In 1452, Pope Nicholas V issued a papal bull Dum Diversas, thus granting Afonse V of Portugal the right to reduce any "Saracens, pagans and any other unbelievers" to hereditary slavery which legitimized slave trade under Catholic beliefs of that time. The approval of the creation of slavery was extended in the papal bull Romanus Pontifex of 1455.

Both of these preceding papal bulls came to serve as a justification for the subsequent era of taking of indigenous peoples into slavery and the creation of a slave trade during European colonialism.

Subsequently in 1493, the papal bull, Inter Caetera by Pope Alexander VI granted these rights to Spain in the New World (the Americas and parts of the Pacific). Also came slavery, mostly of Africans brought to Hispanola, Cuba and other islands and Central and South America where indigenous people starved themselves to death rather than be taken into slavery.

In each instance, with colonization came slavery and the slave trade.

Even "Christianized" slaves were held into slavery and this was sanctioned. St. Thomas Aquinas taught that, although the subjection of one person to another (servitus) was not part of the primary intention of the natural law, it was appropriate and socially useful in a world impaired by original sin. (Cardinal Dulles, Development or Reversal?).

I will concede that for a short period as in 1462, Pius II declared slavery to be "a great crime", that Pope Paul III issued three papal bulls attacking and yet defending prior slavery of Christianized people; and that Pope John Paul II condemned slavery as an abomination (in recent years).

However I am speaking to the history of the Church and its justification for inflicting pain on Unbelievers and so-called inferior races.
