The answer is definitely YES. Flying with one engine on a multi-engined airplane, will cause it to yaw to side of the dead engine. This is due to the Asymmetrical Thrust thus created.
How does a pilot deal with it?
The airplane will tend to turn towards the side of the dead engine. Now what the pilot has to do is that use the rudder and ailerons to counteract with the yaw. The rudder and ailerons has to be trimmed accordingly, to deal with it.
Trimming is needed as it would be stressful for the pilot to continuously hold the controls till the airplane is safely landed.
Q.) Can the airplane maintain the cruise altitude?
Nope. An airplane can't maintain its cruise altitude due to less thrust available and the asymmetrical thrust. Therefore, in such a situation the pilot descends the airplane to the “single engine service ceiling ”.
It is the maximum altitude, where a pilot should be allowed to fly if a single engine is working.
For example, the Airbus A330 can safely cruise at 36000-38000 feet with all enginesworking. But if it looses one engine, then the airplane descends to its Single engine Service Ceiling of 33000ft or lower.
