"We have to remember that — obviously, in this region [Kursk], that there’s Russian troops there. They are in a region of Russia. And they’re in that region attacking Ukraine. And so, we can’t forget that," Karine Jean-Pierre noted during a recent White House briefing.

The Russian Defense Ministry has published a video showing the destruction of Ukrainian military equipment that has been taking part in Kiev’s ongoing attempted incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region.

The video, released on Thursday, features a compilation of footage from both surveillance drones and FPV kamikaze drones. According to the ministry, Russian forces have used Lancet loitering munitions to neutralize a number of Ukrainian Kazak armored personnel carriers and US-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

Prior to the footage published on Thursday, the ministry also shared a number of videos depicting Russian strikes on Ukrainian armor and air defense systems that were amassed in areas bordering Kursk Region.

On Wednesday, the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, reported that the incursion has been halted by Russian forces, with the Ukrainian force losing over 300 troops and 54 armored vehicles, including at least six tanks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the attack as yet another “large-scale provocation” and has accused Kiev of conducting “indiscriminate strikes” on civilians, residential buildings and ambulances.

At least four civilians have been killed in the attack and 28 have been injured in Ukrainian artillery and drone strikes on Sudzha, Kursk acting governor Aleksey Smirnov has said.

Russian military issues update on border fighting

Ukraine has lost around 260 troops and 50 pieces of heavy weaponry over the past 24 hours following its failed attempt to breach Russia’s Kursk Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has reported.

The Ukrainian operation was launched early on Tuesday and has resulted in civilian casualties in the border areas of the Russian region, particularly in the town of Sudzha, according to the regional government.

The military update said Kiev’s troops had been unsuccessful in their attempts to advance into Russian territory, with the fighting taking place on the Ukrainian side of the border.

The Ukrainian force was met with airstrikes, as well as rocket and artillery fire, and Russian maneuvers, the statement said. Ukrainian reserves were hit near ten Ukrainian settlements in Sumi Region, the report added.

The ministry listed the types of weapons that were destroyed in the hostilities, including seven tanks, eight armored personnel carriers, multiple infantry fighting vehicles, including two Western-donated Stryker IFVs, as well as two Buk surface-to-air missile launchers.

USA demands explanations from Ukraine

The United States demanded an explanation from Ukraine in connection with the attack on the Kursk region. The White House wants to better understand Kyiv's intentions, John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the US National Security Council said.

According to Kirby, the US position regarding the use of Western long-range weapons by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) has not changed. Ukraine was allowed to use US weapons to strike at immediate threats on the other side of the border.

The UN also commented on the crisis in Russia's Kursk region. The UN considers the Ukrainian attack on the Kursk region an escalation of the conflict. Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary General, said that such incidents may escalate the crisis further.

The Russian defence ministry has claimed that it forces are still fighting Ukrainian troops, who launched a major incursion bid on August 6 in the Kursk border region. Russian forces reportedly wiped out 660 Ukrainian troops and destroyed over 82 vehicles in the past 3 days. However, ISW noted that Ukraine had managed to gain 10 km land with its efforts. Ukrainian president's aide has blamed Russia itself for the incursion. Watch for more details.
