Russia hits plant making components for Ukrainian equipment in Zaporozhye — politician

MELITOPOL, February 17. /TASS/. The Russian Armed Forces have launched strikes on a plant manufacturing cables for Ukrainian military equipment in the Kiev-occupied city of Zaporozhye, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of a Russian Civic Chamber committee, told TASS.

"The Russian military carried out strikes on facilities within the industrial and energy sectors that supply Ukrainian forces. The damage was substantial: three buildings of the Zaporozhye cable plant were destroyed - everything was burned down - and the energy infrastructure of the plant was disabled. The plant was producing cables for enemy aircraft," he stated.

The politician clarified that the strike took place during the night.

Russia destroys Abrams tank, NASAMS launcher in Kursk region

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. Russian forces destroyed a US-made Abrams tank and a Norwegian-made NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system and its radar in the Kursk Region, with the Ukrainian military losing over 300 troops in the past day, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported.

"In the past day, the Ukrainian army’s losses exceeded 300 servicemen. Four tanks, including one Abrams, three infantry fighting vehicles, among them two US-made Bradleys, three armored personnel carriers, 15 armored combat vehicles, 23 motor vehicles, three self-propelled artillery systems and an artillery gun, a Norwegian-made NASAMS air defense launcher and its radar and a drone control post were destroyed. Four Ukrainian soldiers surrendered," the ministry said in a statement.

Russian operational/tactical and army aircraft and artillery struck Ukrainian manpower and military hardware in areas near the settlements of Bondarevka, Gogolevka, 1st Knyazhiy, Kositsa, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Melovoy, Nikolayevka and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye in the Kursk Region, and also Basovka, Belovody, Veselovka, Zhuravka and Yunakovka in the Sumy Region, it specified

Russian troops liberate Figolevka community in Kharkov Region over past day

Russia’s Battlegroup Center inflicted more than 585 casualties on Ukrainian troops and destroyed two enemy tanks in its area of responsibility over the past day, the Defense Ministry reported

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. Russian troops liberated the community of Figolevka in the Kharkov Region over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Battlegroup West units liberated the settlement of Figolevka in the Kharkov Region through decisive operations. They inflicted losses on formations of three mechanized and two assault brigades of the Ukrainian army and two territorial defense brigades in areas near the settlements of Kondrashovka, Golubovka, Zagoruikovka and Novaya Kruglyakovka in the Kharkov Region, Novolyubovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Kolodezi and Yampolovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic," the ministry said in a statement.

The Ukrainian army lost more than 190 personnel, three US-made M113 armored personnel carriers, seven motor vehicles and six field artillery weapons, including a British-made 155mm FH70 howitzer in that frontline area over the past 24 hours, it specified.

In addition, Russian forces destroyed two ammunition depots of the Ukrainian army, it said.
 
Some U.S. senators have proposed allowing Ukraine to join NATO if Russia violates a ceasefire, a plan that would likely require the U.S. to remain a guarantor of Ukraine’s support. Senior European leaders now back this idea, The Guardian reports.

The proposal is set to be discussed at a meeting of major European leaders on February 17 in Paris. Meanwhile, U.S. special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg outlined the U.S. negotiating strategy to European leaders in Munich. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the approach as unorthodox.
