It comes down to expectation. In Tanzania people expect somebody with a college diploma to behave in a certain way. Now if one compares graduates from local universities or graduates from western institutions of learning to those from Russia or Eastern Europe, the individual could conclude that it is very easier to find twisted minds from Russian graduates than from local or western institutions. Many Tanzanians hold this opinion which might not be true statistically, but it's a narrative that exaggerates the stereotype.

Now instead of defending Russians universities by enumerating your own success, it will help if you explain why some individuals have lost their ways after returning back from Russia or Eastern Europe. Let me start by giving my opinions.

1. During the cold war, Russia and other Eastern Europe accepted students from third world countries for political reasons and they made sure these students finish their studies and return to their countries to propagate communism. Some of these students didn't meet minimum requirements for university studies in any fields. What do you expect, if you give student a diploma he doesn't deserve?
2. Some students weren't prepare mentally to live in Russia and to compound the matter, the Tanzanian government or many African governments didn't support their students properly. Once a student was shipped to Russia, he was expected to stay there uninterrupted until the end of his study (some studies took six or seven years to finish). That was tough for many students. Many who complain about Russian graduates see their parents, friends, relatives everyday. But they forget that those who went to Russia had to isolate themselves from their family for more than six years.
3. When students returned back from their studies, there was no support to integrate these students. As a matter of fact a person with bachelor degree from UDSM or British system of education was regarded superior compared to one with Masters from a Russian University. This frustrated some people.

Namfahamu, si yule alikuwa lecturer DIT kabla hajaenda kusoma Russia? Ila yy anadai kuna mwanamke mfanyakazi mwenzako pale DIT ndio aliemroga, na mpaka leo akiandika chini huwa anataja jina lake, ni msomi mzuri yule mzee ingawa siku hizi haonekani tena pale Akiba!
