Pre-Match Briefing: Chelsea vs Everton

TALKING POINTS

If David Moyes can mastermind the correct result in tonight's match, Everton will immediately qualify for next season's Europa League. Unfortunately for him, the correct result would be a defeat for the Toffees at Stamford Bridge.

This quirk comes about because Uefa rules state that: 'The losing finalist for the domestic cup competition will still be entitled to be entered for the Uefa Europa League should the domestic cup winners qualify for the Uefa Champions League.'

Chelsea need just two points to confirm a top four finish and Champions League qualification for 2009/10. The question then arises whether Moyes will decide to rest enough of his likely Wembley team tonight to reduce the impact of a loss against their future FA Cup Final opponents. Remember also that they have had a day fewer to recover from the weekend's action, with the added endurance of extra time and penalties.

Alternatively, Moyes may decide that he needs to land a big punch on the Blues' chin, hoping the wound is still painful in six weeks' time. His - and his team's - track record against Chelsea in recent years does not offer much support to the notion of silverware returning to Goodison Park for the first time in 14 years. The hints he has dropped suggest multiple changes, though.

KEY STATISTICS
David Moyes has yet to defeat Chelsea as a manager. In 20 matches, including one with Preston, he has drawn six and lost 14.

For Chelsea, the last week in the cups has been a most memorable one for players, staff and supporters. The drama and outcomes of seeing off two great 'big four' rivals in the space of five days must rank it among the very best in our history.

The character and spirit shown by the team has recalled the trophy-laden seasons from 2005-7, especially their renewed ability to respond to setbacks.

It was mark of Luiz Felipe Scolari's time in charge that when top opposition scored, Chelsea did not win. The obvious improvement in fitness may be an important factor, but against Liverpool and Arsenal on Saturday, Hiddink's men recovered from a goal down to win. The timing of this resurgence could not have been better, coming at the decisive end of all three campaigns.

No wonder the Dutchman rues the inexplicable lapse at White Hart Lane: Chelsea are four points shy of Manchester United, who have looked tired after a gruelling campaign, and a Liverpool side that has scored 13 and conceded 11 in its last four outings. The blue parts of Merseyside will have enjoyed last night's error-strewn 4-4 almost as much as Chelsea supporters. But the Blues of London would have been tapping the shoulders of the top two had we won at Spurs.

Everton have held Chelsea to a draw in three of the last four Barclays Premier League meetings. Guus will know that a repeat would almost certainly end our defiant league challenge for this season.

Games are running out fast, and the respective workloads now look vastly different. Liverpool, out of Europe, have just five games remaining - possibly half the number of games as their two main rivals for the title, depending whether either or both of them reach the Champions League Final in Rome.

Man United
should see off poor travellers Pompey tonight, but face three tricky-looking away trips in the space of 11 days in early May, with Manchester City dropping in to Old Trafford in between.

Chelsea still have three London derbies to see through in a possible ten matches. That could rise to four should the Blues and Arsenal reach the Champions League Final.

kimyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

So, are Chelsea officially out of the title race? After tonight, you could be forgiven for thinking it's back to being a one-horse race. That was a consummately professional performance by Manchester United.

May be Mkuu; according to our manager's statement below: -

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink admitted his side's title hopes had all but disappeared with the goalless stalemate. Manchester United won 2-0 against Portsmouth, which moved them six points clear of the Blues and with a game in hand Hiddink believes they are out of reach.

''We knew we couldn't afford to waste points and we did, so yeah the title is finished for us,'' the Dutchman said. ''It's near the end so let's be honest. Let's face facts because they (Manchester United) have won like you would expect them too.''

Hiddink admitted his side were not at their best tonight and believes they must now turn their attentions to trying to win the FA Cup and the Champions League, with the first leg of their semi-final clash against Barcelona awaiting them next week.

''Before we said that mathematically we had chances to win the title but honestly and realistically now we have to focus on the other competitions,'' he said. 'They defended well and we didn't have the intelligence to break down their deffence. The way we played was not good. We worked hard but that's not enough.''

kama kawa m2 wangu; 2ta-go then 2ta-heat & last 2ta-run.

Upo mwana? Barca ni wateja kwa ze blues

Hiyo defence yenu wasiwasi mtupu nimesikia Cavarlho na Cole hawachezi ,nani atacheza beki wa kushoto kumkaba Messi

Watani mpo?

Chasing an unprecedented treble for a Spanish side, Barca are top of La Liga, in the final of the Copa del Rey and the last four of the Champions League - where they meet Chelsea in the first leg on Tuesday - and have scored 142 goals in 55 competitive games in the process

Hivi huyu Bosingwa enyi wana-bluu mnafikiri anaweza kumzuia 'nylon' Messi. Ebu Msikie kocha wenu Guus:

"Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink is confident that Jose Bosingwa can keep Barcelona winger Lionel Messi quiet in the Champions League semi-final first leg"
