Tatizo kwa upande wa Tanzania linakuja katika namna ya vigezo vingine (zaidi ya kuwa na PhD) vinavyopatikana na kuwa assessed. Kwa mfano, moja ya vigezo ni kuwa na published articles katika 'international journals'. Kwa Tanzania, vyuo vikuu havina utaratibu wa kurank hizi international journals. Mwishowe, watu wanakuwa promoted to 'Professorship' katika journals ambazo hata published articles zao haziwe kusomwa wala kuinfluence policy, knowledge, theories n.k.

Katika publishing world kuna namna journals zinakuwa ranked kwa namna articles zinazochapishwa katika journals hizo zinavyokuwa cited na kuinfluence the state of knowledge. Hapa ndipo unasikia journal inakuwa na 'impact factor'. Kwa sasa, journals zenye high impact factor katika ulimwengu wa sayansi ni journals za 'Nature', 'Cell', 'PLoS', na Science'. Pia kuna journals zingine zinakuwa na high impact factor katika eneo husika la kitaaluma kama fizikia, kemia, uchumi, elimu, biashara, siasa, tiba, mazingira, sheria n.k.

Kwa vyuo vikuu vya nje, promotion based on published works inakuwa scrutinised kwelikweli kwa assessors kuangalia aina za journals ambazo mtu anaye seek promotion amepublish. Kwa Tanzania, nimeambiwa hilo suala halifuatiliwi kabisa, ilimradi iitwe international journal, basi mtu atasubmit hizo published articles kwa promotion.

Kama atakuwa amepandishwa atakuwa siyo professor bali ni associate professor. Utofautishe hivi vitu. Huwezi kutoka dr kuwa professor moja kwa moja. Kuna cheo hapo katikati ambacho nimekitaja hapo juu. Ukome kudanganya umma

It's gorgeous! so, far amefanya kazi nzuri kitaaluma (mtazamo ni wangu). Nimesoma machapisho yake hapo juu and to be frank I'm impressed by the knowledge he has contributed to his field of study. I think, asihukumiwe kwa imperfection because it is equally true that we all have perfection fetishes. Muhimu kwake, na wengine ni kuhakikisha jamii inanufaika na elimu aliyonayo.
 
Ndugu yangu Kijazi ili upewe Uprof lazima utimize vigezo vinavyokulika kitaalum na kimataifa. Unapompima Profesa let say Mwandosya kwa vigezo vya kisiasa sio sawa.

Unapompima Profesa Lipumba let say kwa kumlingansha Zito Zuberi Kabwe sijui unatumia mizania gani. Profesa Lipumba ni Resource ( chimbuko la marifa) wakati Zito Zuberi Kabwe ni mpiga debe na anafaa kuwa mtendaji.

Kwenye siasa kuna mambo mengi ya hovyo. Wakati mwingine ukiwa mtaalam unapotaka kutumia taaluma yako unazuiwa kwa misingi ya kisiasa hasa katika nchi zisizoendelea kama za kwetu. Mwanasiasa anaheshimika kuliko mtaalam. Wenzetu Mhandisi aliyesimamia kujengwa kwa daraja jina lake huandikwa penye daraja kama ishara ya kumheshima Mhadisi kwetu hapa linaandikwa jina la Mwanasasa aliyelifungua. Kufungua ni muhimu kuliko kujenga.

Kitendo hiki kimewakatisha tama wataalam wengi pengine maovu tunayoyaona yanatokana na wataalam kuingia uwoga wa kupatilizwa na wasiasa. Ukitaka kujua umuhimu wa wasomi nenda chuoni usiende Bungeni. Pale unakuta mtu kama Sugu anasema uwingi wa takwimu sio hoja kwa sababu tukipima malaria au UKIMWI tunachua tone la damu na sio debe zima. Mtu kama huyu akikubalika anaweza kuwa Rais wa nchi kama Afrika Kusini Zuma hajasoma.

Unapotaka kumpima Profesa Mkumbo usimpime kwa ugomvi wake Freeman Mbowe, Uprofesa haupatikani jukwaani, haupimwi na watu wa mitaani unapimwa na Maprofesa ni evidence based.
Haya basi twende huko kwenye huo unaouita Usomi, wamefanya nini?

Professor maana yake ni mwalimu.

Kifaransa ukitaka ku distinguish mwalimu wa chuo kikuu unasema le professeur dans le superieur, otherwise hata mwalimu.wa shule ya msingi ni "le proffeseur".

Kuna jamaa alikuwa anafundisha historia first year, wanafunzi wakimwita Dr. ilibidi awasahihishe.na kuwaambia kwamba "mimi.si Dr. kwa maana sijafanya Ph.D yangu bado, mimi.ni professor tu".

Sasa bongo nashangaa kuona "professor", which is basically "teacher", inakuwa na prestige kuliko Dr. which is an actual academic distinction denoting that someone has a Ph.D .

Hata Obama alikuwa professor wa sheria, lakini hana Ph.D

Nijuavyo mimi kuwa researcher siyo mchezo kuna watu wanalala maabara lkn hawa Maprofesa wa kwetu kutwa wapo baa na kuzengea vibarmaid siwataji tu majina kwa kuwasitri, sasa hizo impact factor wanazifikisha saa ngapi au ni magenius?!

Umesahau 'Senior lecturer' kabla ya associate professor.

Na pia, kwa UDSM, at least zamani (sina hakika kwa sasa) mtu kuwa full professor wala haikuhitaji PhD.

Kama unaweza, angalia prospectus za miaka ya 70, 80, na 90. Wamba dia Wamba hakuwa na PhD na alikuwa full professor!

Lakini tukizungumzia elimu tu, mtu mwenye PhD ana elimu kubwa kuliko full professor mwenye Master's.

Vile vile, wapo ma-PhD ambao hawana Master's. Yaani wana Bachelor's halafu wakaenda moja kwa moja kwenye PhD. Namjua mmoja alifanya hivyo lakini sitamtaja humu kwa sababu za privacy lakini mnaweza ku-guess na mkapatia....hahahahaaa
