Kwa miaka 5 sasa, kumekuwa na wimbi kubwa sana la wamarekani weusi wanaokuja Tanzania, wengine kuhamia, wanaopenda kufanya biashara na wengine ni wazee wamechagua TZ kama sehemu ya kustaafia.

Na hili wimbi nadhani lilikuwa kubwa baada ya dada mmoja anaigwa Traveling Sista kuja na kuanza kuhamasiaha wenzake kupitia social network.

Hakuna namna wanaweza kupata recognition wakasaidiwa hasa issue ya VISA, kuepuka kulazimika kutoka nje ya nchi kila baada ya miezi mitatu na kurudi.

Back in the 80's we had members of The Black Panthers Party flocking to TZ en masse especially in Arusha. And even before that we had many skilled Black Americans working for Mzee Nyerere in various fields including Academia.

Not anymore, TZ isn't a safe haven. Unstable politics, Heavy Taxes, Bureaucratic nature of issuing Residential Permits, Extreme Inflation, Dilapidated Infrastructure, to mention few, are a nightmare.

I am not American.

I am here to echo what they are saying.

If you are family is doing great in US, it's okay.

What you're saying was in vogue in early 90's. Mzee Nyerere made a speech at the Hill (UDSM) and South Africa, that Africa should never sever it's relationship with American Black Diaspora.

He envisioned an Africa which could be a Mecca of American talents, especially Black Americans. But this proved impossible. And what initiative did we take ?

Atleast, we could have started with Dual Citizenship, Honorary Citizenship or Expert Passport (Atleast our own version of the Green-Card), to make things easy for Black Americans to reside here. But NADA, nothing!

To make matters worse, in 1999, we enacted a piece of land legislation which made it too difficult for foreigners to have access to land a as a means of production.

The legal fees are way above the ceiling, the corruption is stinking and bureaucracy is just a nightmare.

People who can reside safely here in TZ are Chinese and Western Immigrants who are extremely loaded and have backing by their government.

And by the way, I mentioned of my American family not to brag, but to send a point home. Why would blacks wish to come here in TZ while the US is just doing fine. Yes there are some challenges here and there, but US is just fine, believe me.​

From a personal experience dealing with Chinese clientele, I tell you this is an unfair comparison.

Most of Chinamen dwelling in Tanzania hail from bilateral Mega-Projects between PRC and URT. Make no mistake, PRC has the most skilled labour this world has ever seen dwarfing that of Americans, plus Chinese embassies and consulates offer them lots of incentives.

With Indians it's a whole different story. Most of them are old money. They've been in control of our financial system since colonial times, so their wealth is generational. Most rich Indians in East Africa have had a good head start from family links.

Black Americans aren't supported by anyone. They're caught between a rock and a hard place. The US government loathes them, and African governments aren't so welcoming either.

Being an ardent believer in the BACK TO HOME MOVEMENT, I would love to see black Americans find home in TZ. But I also realize that this would end up being a disaster to them like it did in Liberia.

I've been old enough to see how unpredictable TZ authorities can get.​
