I have not had the intention to comment on the conversations i see here but I cannot hold it any more. I am deeply distressed to see young, progressive Kenyans degenerate to this.
I am a Kenyan, irrespective of where I come from and who I support. Kenya has come a long way from a one party dictatorship, to a multi-party democracy, which many paid for with their lives, it is not perfect and the turn of events is evident, but Kenyans who believe in the true spirit of democracy, freedom and prosperity, know that you make a difference by contributing positively.
In a civilised state like the one we have been striving to build, one of the fundamental freedoms is freedom to expression, so you have a right to your opinion and i respect that, but so is freedom of association. to the extent that your freedom, impinges on others' freedom, that is in the least described as barbarism. Robert, I do not know whether you have had the chance to visit any of our neighbours who have been at war, war is UGLY, that is all i can say in a nutshell, it disenfranchises, and takes a people many many miles back irrespective of where or who they are. KRA today is losing millions per day in revenue loss because of what is happening. it is not the luo or kikuyu who will suffer from this. It is all Kenyans. Innocent people are losing their lives, they may have never even had anything to do with politics in their lives, they probably never even voted in the first place, but they are being massacred for a mistake not of their own doing, an act of God, who wrote an email and said they wanted to be born Kikuyu of Luo??? don't we just find ourselves what we are today??? However our responses, our attitudes, our predjudices all are our choice. We choose what we want to believe, we choose how we want to respond, and we choose whom we want to associate with.
I am sure there are people on this forum, who are Kikuyus, but jobless, has having kibaki as president made a difference in their individual lives? and there are luos who have jobs.. Before you open your mouth to utter all the giberrish ask yourself, who is the enemy? is the enemy your neighbour, who is a kikuyu, is it the shopkeeper, who has ensured that you could get a packet of milk next to your house, is it fellow wanakaziafrica with whom you have worked so diligently together in one common purpose to deal with the unemployment in Kenya today???? any thinking mind reflects. The young Kenyan minds who can strategise cannot be thinking of political solutions similar to the mostly illetrate class during the medieval times in Europe. As Kenyans slaughter each other in all the skirmishes, the victims are so misplaced, they are mostly the innocent, the poor, the weak, the children, voiceless. Never the political elite, the big wigs. So Alai, who is the enemy???/
In conclusion, I do not lose hope despite the dismal talk flying through these mails. i believe that there is an uhuru generation, who can think for the future, who want a better Kenya, not just sycophancy, who believe in making a difference, not destroying the foundation, but building on it step by step and erecting a monument of peace, prosperity and justice. As the world is moving more and more into integration, we recognise our diversity, we shouldn't use that to destroy ourselves. a country of luos only or kukuyus only is unviable, we need each other because each one of us has a special thing to contribute to the great nation Kenya. Each of us has a special substance in us, and each of us is unique. In killing each other we deny Kenya the priviledge of benefitting from that gift 'YOU' and 'ME' whoever those pronouns refer to.
Kenya as you said is bigger than kazi africa and i add Kenya is bigger than our prejudices and our short sightedness. Kenya will be stable and strong, and will continue to prosper step by step. God bless Kenya. Haki iwe ngao na ulinzi. natukae na undugu amani na uhuru raha tupate na ustawi. My prayer for Kenya and my prayer for all of us.
I have copied many other people on this email and I request that we pass the message on as far as possible, a journey of a thousand miles is accomplished a step at a time. We should say no to anarchy, strife and violence, Kenya can come above all this, because i believe in the people of Kenya, they are a people with a vision for a better tomorrow.
