Kenya is not our benchmark but our strategic plan and goals.
Yes we are not your benchmark, everybody knows that, but you do use us as your only benchmark yet the gap is widening, check the link shared by
NairobiWalker. One thing that majority of Tanzanians fails to understand, Kenya's economy is one of the most diversified and can withstand any shocks. We have the most robust, dynamic and productive human resource.
There was a certain period I worked in Bongo, we were four, two Tanzanians and two Kenyans, working together in the same project office and living in the same apartment but a room for each one. We had opted to live together during the lifetime of the project instead of each renting a hotel room, this served us well as we were able to collaborate till late in the night.
But one thing was for sure, anyone could see and feel it, that Kenyans are a different species as far as work ethics, commitment and discipline are concerned. Bongos would retire early to bed and leave us pulling all nighter jobs with so much energy and gusto. The project was dragging behind schedule, so every effort had to be made to ensure every second, minute, hour was put to good use, productivity, efficacy and efficiency and ensuring strict timelines and adhering to milestones and deliverable were our only motivation.
We pulled it off successfully and boarded KQ with so much pride while playing Nameless 'Narudi nyumbani' with our bank accounts reading a few zeroes more.
