Both are bad but Mwanahalisi is by far the most TOXIC! The ideal MWANAHALISI story, intends to leave anyone reading it leave you hating someone or something -sometimes i wonder if this were MWANAHALISI'S a mission statement, and if it was then it shows remarkable consistency.The anger it stirs requires no action, no moral or intellectual effort, but simply confirms existing prejudices. Its victims are judged before they are given a chance to defend themselves and yes i think its a rag that we can do without.

It amazes me that for quite a few people, the Mwanahalisi is their main source of news on the world. Possibly an explanation for why they cant think critically.

The bottomline is this Mwanahalisi rag is a hateful, unconstructive, bigoted paper for hateful, unconstructive, bigoted people.Surely, JF members have better charities to give their money than this little twisted rag under the name of MWANAHALISI

How do we know if its the truth? where is the evidence to support it? Ever heard rule of law? The only societies that last for a significant time are those that require accountability by a system of law (or traditions that have the effect of law). Such societies expect everyone to meet common standards of behavior or face punishment.

Law defines obligations (what is right) and unacceptable behavior (what is wrong) for civilized societies..I believe Tanzania is one of them. Its not up to KUBENEA or MWANAHALISI to decide on our behalf but we do have courts of law to do that by looking at arguments from both sides.

This is a good start. But JF members are not as dumb as some here wants us to believe. Nothing wrong with asking questions, KUBENEA et al knew what would come when they decided to write what they wrote without having any meaningful funds to support themselves.

As such, I can't see much hypocrisy in pointing out MWANAHALISI's shortcomings. Hypocrisy is the accusation of something of which one pretends to be immune: as far as I can see no one has pretended to such immunity.

What has been criticised is MWANAHALISI's tendency to doom-mongering, hyperbole, to infantilise debate (where it permits one), to uninformed judgement, and to its own hypocrisy where it condemns one week what it has bigged up the previous one: running scare stories about "fisadi mkuu JK" in good times while asking for the same JK'S govt for mediacl assistance to India etc.

I find it strange that of the points you responded to from my original post , none of my actual criticisms were addressed: namely factual inaccuracy, recycled stories and so on. Instead you go off on one about freedom of expression, a right which no one, least of all me, has contested.


I also find it bizarre that you assume that everyone commenting hereon JF is dumb as MWANAHALISI readers.In any case, a balanced consumer of news would read a variety of sources. You and some here mightcorrectly point out that MMWANAHALISI readers may well do so: but some sources are better than others (i.e. more accurate and factual, less opinionated and biased). I am not talking about the comment pieces but the basic, factual, news reporting itself. In this respect almost any broadsheet is better than almost any tabloid - using the yardstick of quantity and accuracy of information and minimal editorial bias.



The intrusion of overt bias into ordinary "factual" reporting in the MWANAHALISI and other tabloids is a disincentive to critical thought and finding out more from other sources (why bother when my newspaper has already told me what to think?), unless you happen to be inclined that way already, and/or already consult other, better sources, in which case why would you be reading a mid-market tabloid with little factual content MWANAHALISI?? For the horoscope, perhaps.

Suala la kuanza kutukanana kama 'mmoja' anavyotaka kufanya ni kuishiwa hoja na upofu wa akili. Michango kwa maana halisi haimaanishi pesa kama 'mpuuzi' anavyotaka kutuaminisha, michango hata ya mawazo(ambayo haihitaji CPA na mtu ambaye anaweza kuwa deported)ambayo inajenga.
