The rise and fall of Colonel Muamar Gadaffi

Kwamba kuna propaganda pande zote is given, propaganda ni sehemu ya maisha. In the west, out of every two times anybody smiles at you, one smile is propagandic . This is why I am not ashamed that Africans do not smile for the cameras as much as their western counterparts, they are not as much sophisticated in the propaganda aspect. An African is more prone to tell you how he feels than a prim and proper westerner.

Orwell had the nerve to declare - in a book title nonetheless- "All Art Is Propaganda", and art is all around us -from cave paintings to the latest Jay-Z album-. Who can deny? By him, if you deny that this world is standing on a fabric of propaganda, you are denying there is art in this world.

Ghadaffi anaangushwa, iwe mwezi mmoja au mwaka mmoja ujao. Simply because he is on the wrong side of the basic tenets of history and entropy. The rebels are only 80 km from Tripoli according to Al-Jazeera. Ninavyoandika hivi naangalia Al-Jazeera wanasema wananchi wanaondoka Tripoli, washkaji zake waliokuwa naye toka mapinduzi bila damu ya kumuondoa mfalme Idris 1969 -the latest being Abdul Salaam Jallud- Ghadaffi wana defect. Wanaogopa waki hang around mapaka dakika ya mwisho watajumlishwa na Ghadafi katika mashtaka, yote ya watu wa Libya na hata ya ICC. Ghadaffi mwenyewe anaongea na "rebels" kutafuta suluhu. All the signs are there.

As the old english saying goes, "You can fool some people for some time, but you can't fool all the people all the time".

And Gadaffi is hardly trying to fool anyone, especially with his "god complex" antics.

Mark my words, my above prediction is rather conservative and generous on the part of his supporters.

The Ghadaffi regime is approaching a meltdown quicker than you think.

The more important qustion to me is, are the rebels prepared? Could they forge a united nation in the wake of this chaos?

Tatizo watu tunashia kusoma na kuangalia news kwenye kwenye media. We don't bother looking for critical sources and make objective analysis on the matter. Hizo links ulitozotoa are merely news sites and I don't think one can learn a lot from them, apart from being informed what is happening on the ground kwa matakwa ya owners of those sites.

Ukiangalia watu wengi hapa tunapinga hizi propaganda japokuwa tunayoandika inayoshesha kabisa how much we have been influenced by those propaganda. Ndio maana nikamjibu mwanzisha tthread, they need to use their own brain and assess what they read or see in the media.
 

Propaganda ni kama "Standard Room Temperature" kwa wanasayansi, au "ceteris paribus" kwa wachumi na "innocent until proven guilty" kwa wanasheria.An illusionally ideal that could hardly be realized.

W e all know these to be unrealistic ideals, but they have that Selassian paradox efect of "an illusion to be pursued, but never attained" whic at times could be put to good use.

So let's not dwell on what is propaganda, evolution itself is based on the salesmanship of propaganda to get a mate, otherwise you wouldn't be here. Kwa nini tausi wana mkia wenye rangi nzuri? Propaganda tupu.

Tukubali kwamba propaganda ni sehemu ya maisha, what then?

If you cancel out the negative popaganda of the "rebels" and that of Ghadaffi, nani anabaki kuwa na aibu zaidi? Nani anabaki kuwa muongo mkubwa? Nani anafyata mkia zaidi?

Sasa nieleze faida ulizozipata wewe ambaye nchi yako inafanya uchaguzi kila baada ya miaka mitano...

Kama mtu ambaye angeweza kufuatia uhuru na kutoua/ kutotesa watu naye angeweza kufanya hayo hayo au hata zaidi ungesemaje?

Mubarak hakuwa as Draconian as Ghadaffi. I am certainly not a Mubarak supporter. But Mubarak's case is quite different from Ghadaffi's.

I used to live near Libyans - embassy personnel- in Dar, kila siku wanachukua malaya kwa sababu nchini kwao hawakuwa hata na uhuru wa kujirusha of all things.Worst nanny state possible.

Na pia anapambana na atapambana mpaka mwisho ni kwa kuwa tu wanaotaka yeye atoke madarakani ni waasi na majeshi ya NATO.

I agree propaganda is part of our lives. Unless you live as a hermit, totally isolated from people, you will always encounter propaganda. Being a subset of rhetoric, propaganda is simply a manipulation attempt. It misdirects or distracts the attention away from the main issues.

However, people should educate themselves to avoid being indoctrinated. Given the fact that the news editors have decided to throw out the basics of journalism in favour of racy innuendo, it's important for people to read between the lines of the news and see what isn't being reported, or what is reported once, quietly, and not followed up.

For example, Israel wound its way toward a sixth week of social protests but has quietly been reported in the world media. For good and for bad, Israelis are accustomed to being in the news, but not on this protest probably because some of the explicitly political complaints include the amount of money going to Israeli special interests like settlements in the West Bank and the ultra-orthodox populations, rather than to the general economy.

Same to the recent UK riots. It very clear that the big and multinational stores were looted and set on fire by the looters. I am even told an Olympic village was set on fire. However, the UK media has been showing Pakistanis and Bangladesh corner shops as the major targets by the rioters. It is funny because many rioters are being charged for breaking in or setting fire some big stores never shown on the media.

People need to train themselves and learn the tactics used in the propaganda and intellectually learn when something is propaganda and when it's the truth. In an age of information overload, distraction techniques can be as effective as active propaganda. Instead of going with the wind, we should test for distraction by looking for items that appear repeatedly and those that appear quietly.

But people should be aware of deliberately placed lies that are repeated with the hope that people will believe it if it is repeated often enough and those eye-catching stories which are simply planted. Obviously, "We the people" need to buy newsroom bean counters a set of journalism textbooks, perhaps highlighting the chapter on how to avoid becoming a propaganda tool especially in the world of social media.

Yea, especially when the video was posted on YouTube by the Libyan Army. Kama the Libyan Army imekuwa the source of information about the war, then inaonyesha ni jinsi gani tumekuwa propaganda tools.

Anaweza akamwandaa then nguvu ya umma ikamkataa kama wakenya walivyomkataa mtoto wa baba la taifa lao Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
