Symptoms of mpox, also known as monkeypox, typically appear within three weeks of exposure to the virus and usually last 2–4 weeks. Symptoms can include:
Rash
A flat sore that develops into a blister filled with liquid and may be itchy or painful. The rash can appear anywhere on the body, such as the face, inside the mouth, hands, feet, chest, genitals, or anus. The rash can look like pimples or blisters and may go through several stages, including scabs, before healing.
Flu-like symptoms
Fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, and fatigue. These symptoms may occur before or after the rash appears, or not at all. Other symptoms include sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough.
