The funny thing is, UON is younger than Makerere and university of dar es salaam. In fact at independence only Tanzania and Uganda had universities. At that time UON was called Royal College and it did not offer any undergraduate programmes. Funny how in 4 decades UON has overtaken the two and even makes University of dares salaam look like a village polytechnic.
During those days Kenyans had to go to Makerere to study sciences and medicine, University of dar es salaam for law and arts, but now UON commands more respect world wide in a those fields than University of dar es salaam. Makerere still holds weight even in Kenya though not as much as UON, but Tanzanian certificates are now like tissue paper, no employer will trust you have the knowledge and society does not take you seriously.
