Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in terms of income per capita despite being one of the world’s richest when it comes to natural resources. It is the third richest in the entire continent behind South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tanzania’s massive potential and endless opportunities notwithstanding, the country remains donor dependent, with its people living on the edge of poverty. Many theories and myths have been out there for quite some time as to why Tanzanians are so poor. In fact, we Tanzanians are poor because we are lazy.

We like easy ways out of our hardships. Our culture and educational system, cultivate our minds to seek shortcuts out of our difficulties. We do not engage in a realistic sense of determining cause and effect of issues affecting our lives and society.

We are economically poor as a country because of our long dependence on foreign hand-outs, which have in turn enslaved our minds through a sense of entitlement. Despite abundant wealth, many African countries have made it routine for Washington and London to subsidize their budgets. We are remaining economically disadvantaged because of an enemy called corruption, a product of greed and selfishness. Tanzania lacks people with clear patriotic-sense

One would think that, with its strategic geographical location and access to the Indian Ocean, Tanzania would be an economic power. Others think that with its vast arable land and water sources, Tanzania would never experience food shortage. With its national parks, and other historical treasures, Tanzania would be a Mecca of world tourism and Africa’s economic power. We are dead wrong. Tanzania poverty paradox and potential to become an economic power is slowly slipping away.

Majority of Tanzanians do not have access to quality education required to open up their minds into knowledge base, and equip them with opportunities to explore, and discover other endless possibilities necessary to create jobs and put people to work. Inaccessibility to quality education is creating cyclic-generational poverty among millions of Tanzanians, which further complicates the untangling of the poverty paradox.

Foreigners have realized that our leaders and intellectuals are mis-educated, and are therefore handing us candy-bars at will in exchange for our resources. They are exploiting the cracks within our poor education, culture of laziness and greed, and lack of patriotism within our leadership structure to strip us of our natural wealth.

Foreigners have discovered that the mis-educated Tanzania’s political elites are more interested in nourishing their Swiss-bank accounts, than dealing with the plight of poverty that has engulfed the country. This is the reason why Tanzania is poor and will continue to be poor

Tanzania is getting poorer because we are not receptive of new revolutionary- minds that would foster economic progress. The system wide kleptocrats are not welcoming of new revolutionary brain-power. Their ineptness makes them feel vulnerable and threatened, because they are products of a culture that lacks work discipline.

The late Dr Ferdinand Masau, founder of the Tanzania Heart Institute (THI), is the sad and tragic case of how far Tanzania has to go to accept a wave of new minds that will change the country and its resources into a trillion dollar economy .

Muhtasari wa anachosema Mashaka hapo juu ni kwamba we are poor because we are stupid.

Mkuu John Mashaka,

Its the mindset of our leaders that they get the aid and they use it for their own purposes.

The doner countries have the responsibility to stop this thing foreign aid and call our leaders to account of their actions when they sit to ponder our country's resources.

Just days gone Israelis have discovered natural gas and they are going to use it to produce electricity for the whole country for the next 33 years or so lying beneath its the sense of belief for the country which was importing gas from outside.

Natural gas can help the economy to grow fast because we will have electricity everywhere the roads will have lights, street lights, road signs, traffic lights, street shops (proper shops), small industries and electricity will be availabe in all hospitals and schools.

Not all our leaders are miseducated some are well educated especially those who had opportunity to go to prestigious universities in the world, but its just ignorance that when they go back home they become empty pumpkins. with no even seeds.

They are the ones who have created the pandora box of our educations system to play with where all children have no basics for their education and have their exams results upgraded even though they are poor.

Change is needed so those in position to make decision are making right decision and not these leaders of ours who often drift away from electorate who put them where they are, to endulge themselves in pleasures of life, mismanagement of public funds and our natural resources.

Is Tanzania poor country OR it's majority of Tanzanian are poor?.

Why we hear everyday noises and voice from Tanzania politicians screaming and saying Tanzania is a rich country but wananchi wake are POOR!.

Who is RIGHT?.

Kama ni kweli, Tanzania is that poor, why Wabunge wetu drives Mashangingi worth hundreds of millions MADAFU.

Is it really true to have the notion in Tanzania of RICH country, POOR people!.

Mwl. Julius Nyerere once said "To measure a country's wealth by its gross national product is to measure things, not satisfactions." And also in 1973, he said, "If real development is to take place, the people have to be involved."

Have you measure things and What have you done as Tanzanian?.

Kwani kuna makosa kusema, Everyone will carry their own burden!. It's not me. This is well known politician talking.

Hapa Mashaka ameongea, maana Bongo kila mtu atakuambia mimi ni mfanya biashara ila hana any business concepts, anafanya vitu ambavyo havieleweki kutegema short cut. In a way, Mashaka inabidi ajichunge sana kwani huyu atakuja mwagiwa tindi kali tu maana watanzania kwa kutopenda ukweli, nafikiri tunaongoza Afrika.

Herein like Nigeria lies, kiini cha matatizo yetu. The trouble with Nigeria[readTanzania] is simply and squarely a failure of leadership. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian character. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian Land or climate or water or anything else. The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leadership to rise to the responsibility of personal example which is the hallmark of true leadership. Qoute Chinua Achebe book: Trouble with Nigeria.

I bet its out of cheap politics that we'll always remain poor!

You are NOT far from the point. True evidence is BAD GOVERNANCE as usual by TANU/CCM as well as the majority of Tanzanians being so damn lazy. There are a few who are trustworthy and hard working but the majority are just there to waste people's time in what we call sekta nyeti serikalini and in private sectors. It's a shame really. Anywhere in the world if you have a president who's incompetent, you'll never go anywhere!
