Kwa ufafanuzi balanced life ni maisha ya furaha; yenye amani; yanayokidhi mahitaji yako yote i.e unapata kila kitu kwa wakati muafaka na kwa quality unayotaka; unauwezo wa kubadili chochote kinacho kosesha furaha, amani au matamanio yako yoyote. Hofu haikutawali na unauhakika wa mambo yote unayoyafanya na ambayo ungependa kuyafanya huku ukiwa timilifu kiafya na kiutendaji. In short you master your environment.

Kama pesa zingekuwa baraka basi matajiri wasingeugua, wangekuwa na furaha wakati wote maana ikipungua wanaenda kununua tu. Remember you can have a good bed and yet fail to fall asleep. You can have all medical insurances and all doctors you know and yet you might end up paralysed. 7. You hope that other people will take care of your money

You want to have everything now and are not willing to wait in order to buy it later. The concept of saving money for something you want to buy is not known to you - instead you use one of your many credit cards.

1. You buy everything your neighbors and friends have

Trying to impress your neighbors and friends by buying all the stuff they have plus everything they would like to have? Don’t do it - spending money on things that you really have no need for is the number 1 reason why people have less money than they want to. Having a lot of things and having a lot of money are 2 things that contradict each other - you need to give money away in order to get stuff.


True wealth and money comes to those who are willing to wait - the 1000 dollars you choose not to spend on a new plasma TV with a giant screen can turn into 100 000 dollars in 20 years. Think of how much TV-s this money would get you then (as opposed to how much you would get when selling your TV after 20 years)

Finn's Facts: We are not poor; we have too many criminals occupying public office

MARIE Shaba, the former chairperson of Tanzania Association of Non Governmental Organizations (TANGO) and interim chairperson of Non-State Actors (NSAs) task force, once stood her ground and disputed the fact that Tanzania is called a poor country. It was during the trademark World Bank monthly breakfast talks last year and the subject was mining.

''We are not poor, are we?'' Shaba wondered while sitting next to former World Bank Country Director for Tanzania and Uganda, Judy O'Connor. ''We are not a poor country, the term is often used by donors to weaken our bargaining position, but honestly we are a very rich country,'' she argued.

The WB director, O'Connor, a very humble, soft spoken Irish national compared to her successor, nodded her head in approval and agreed that indeed Tanzania was not a poor country.

Imagine if we can be able to collect half of what is being siphoned out of this country by the so-called foreign investors and our brainwashed thieving politicians and bureaucrats who inflate prices of property bought by the government like the Rome embassy building, the record high 152m/- per day Dowans Holdings capacity fee being paid by the Treasury and the single year 133bn/- Bank of Tanzania's external payment arrears account looting?

Let's get a few examples now; this is journalism, not blah blah. Annual tanzanite sales to the United States alone top over $300m (approx. 390bn/-) per annum for cut tanzanite. Our own earnings per annum for the gem which is exclusively mined in Tanzania is less than $100m (about 130bn/-). Spot the difference; in excess of 260bn/-, money which is enough to construct over 500 kilometres of bitumen standard road network at a rate of 300m/- per km.

Foreign trawlers are illegally catching tuna and other species of fish in the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) with an estimated value of over $220m annually. Last March a single Oman registered fishing boat, MV Tawariq 1, was nabbed with over 290 metric tonnes of tuna valued at over 2bn/-.

The World Bank estimated that the $200m loss is enough money to construct another 800km of tarmac road. What about training doctors, teachers, mining engineers, hire more policemen and modernize Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to enable it collect an estimated $2bn or a third of the annual national budget which is said to be lost through evaders?

President Kikwete who has vowed to ensure that the mining sector benefits the country more, has often made chilling revelations regarding crooked acts which have been practiced by foreign mining companies over the years to deny Tanzanians a fair share of the resources in terms of taxes. An Alex Stewart Assayers report for 2005/6 confirms this.

The president, who unlike his predecessor who often emotionally defended foreign mining companies as doing a good job after investing over $2bn in the mining sector, has come out openly to express his dissatisfaction with how the sector is being plundered by the so-called investors and their crooked local partners.

Between 2000 and 2006, the country's two major gold producers earned over 3.4trn/- or slightly close to the country's annual budget, but paid a paltry 118bn/- as royalty and taxes while repatriating the bulk of the money abroad. In fact all foreign mining companies still maintain offshore accounts which means that such money never gets into the local economy at all.

We need no donors here but upright, committed public leaders that would flush out hundreds of suspect criminals currently occupying public offices getting paid by taxpayers but who work in the interest of individuals.

The job which the president started at Tanzania Police Force soon after taking over from his predecessor in 2005, which he later extended to Bank of Tanzania and finally to one of his highest lieutenants and close ally, former prime minister Edward Lowassa should not be stopped.

Presence of too many criminals in public offices sometimes at the helm of the country's administration is a sin the majority of us must work hard closely together with President Kikwete and Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda to get rid of.
