The CIA and the US have led global campaigns of terror across Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
We routinely arm, support, train, and fund right wing military death squads and dictators when it suits our best interest.
Examples include the Contras in latin America who killed civilians and the CIA allowed to sell crack to black communities to fund their terrorist campaign, the Mujahideen in Middle East who we once called brave freedom fighters before killing them and countless civilians under bush, we armed the Khmer rouge and Pol Pot who led a terror campaign against Vietnam and Cambodia with a kill count in the millions, the KLA who we deemed terrorists publically but funded and armed secretly, and the Indonesian government in their genocide against East Timor.
By aiding these groups and guiding them we are carrying out genocide. We coup like you would not believe, overthrowing democratically elected socialist leaders all across Latin America in violent and bloody coups and assisting rogue actors as they kill civilians and assassinate or kidnap leaders. Remember that we couped over 87 separate countries. As an example is 1953 Operation Ajax in which we overthrew a communist dictator and installed a pro-western, secular, anti communist, military dictatorship (we later invaded Iran anyways); i.e. we overthrew one dictator to install another.
Another is Chile where we spent tens millions to orchestrate the overthrow of democratically elected socialist leader Allende to install the dictator Pinochet.
We also illegal direct warfare, saturation bombing, covert operations and CRBN weaponry which is illegal under international law but doesn’t apply to us because we are simply too powerful to stop. Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Lybia, Afghanistan, and Iraq were all illegal wars in international law.
In Iraq alone we killed between 270-370 thousand civilians alone. In Afghanistan we killed 51,000 taliban and 47,000 civilians, almost a 1 to 1 ratio.
In Vietnam where the war aim was solely killing as many people as possible, we killed 2,000,000 Vietnamese 675,000 of which were civilians. The Cambodian genocide, perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge who was backed by the US killed 2.5 million civilians. These are numbers of civilians not seen since the Nazi regime. Under war criminal Henry Kissinger in Laos, 200,000 people were killed by bombs dropped every 8 minutes every 24 hours for 9 years. This killed a tenth of their population. Kissinger’s saturation bombing of neighboring Cambodia killed 50,000. This is not even mentioning our murderous covert operations like the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba or operation Mongoose.
Election interference and installing military dictators.
This takes the form of direct election meddling with votes directly, media interference, or absorption of foreign media companies running propaganda. Mainly done in Latin America and mainly taking place between 1949 and 2000, according to the book Meddling in the Ballot Box: The Causes and Effects of Partisan Electoral Interventions, our ideal candidate has won in almost every case. As in Iran and much of latin America, we routinely install dictators who will open their markets.
We also assassinate heads of state, kidnap and kill leftists, use torture and extrajudicial killing, and use murderous sanctions which kill mainly malnourished children and women.
So after the US leads a coup in your nation, funds your terrorists, kills your civilians, leads a direct illegal war, and installs a dictator who is pro western and economically neoliberal, the IMF scrambles in to loot the war torn nation. To achieve stability again these nations need money which the IMF has but will only give on one condition, what is known as structural adjustment or the forcible privatization of every sector of your economy.
These adjustments are extremely one sided in favor of the US and their first world allies and force the rapid sell off of oil and mineral rights. Multinational finance, oil, and mineral extraction companies come in to secure cheap resources and cheap labor to benefit the first world and economically devastates the poor third world nation who will see none of the profits generated. These resources are sent to the first world who manufacture goods and sell back to the couped nation at a large premium. These countries are most often than not never able to repay their debts with interest.
The narrative, tactics, funding and institutional supports of the U.S. post-9/11 wars fuel repression and corruption and escalate cycles of violence. The fact of the matter is that the US has always used terrorism to secure foreign interests because local instability creates conditions for pro-western regime change and one sided economic deals that devastate the third world.
