Meli 13 zinahudumiwa muda huu bandari ya DSM Januari 28/2024

Hangaika na sentensi hii hapa:

"Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has suspended the bagging of loose cargo inside Dar es Salaam Port to reduce the number of waiting ships and causing congestion in the facility"

"Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has suspended the bagging of loose cargo inside Dar es Salaam Port to reduce the number of waiting ships and causing congestion in the facility".

"With the suspension of Durban and increased congestion in other South African ports, Mombasa and Dar es Salaam ports have registered increased vessels scheduled to dock in the next 15 days".

πŸ‘‰ Lakini kitu ambacho kinasikitisha ni wewe kubeba mstari mmoja tu wa article nzima tena yakiwa ni maoni ya KPA Managing Director na akifanya reference ya Meli moja tu inasema :-
"according to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), some ships destined for Tanzania are now being diverted to Mombasa port.

Last week, MV Jolly Oro, which was expected to offload its cargo in Dar es Salaam docked at Mombasa to discharge 510 containers belonging to Tanzanian importers", KPA Managing Director Capt William Ruto said.

The Dar es salaam port director Mrisho Mrisho yesterday unveiled an internal target of handling 24 million tonnes of cargo in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, thanks to the execution of Dar es salaam Maritime Gateway project (DMGP).
πŸ‘‰ The amount is equivalent to two million tonnes more than the 22 million tonne target set by the gorvenment in its budget estimates.
Mrisho divulged the plans to journalist during a visit to witness operational transformation after the compleation of the DMGP.
πŸ‘‰ Mrisho said the Dar es salaam port has already handled 12 million tonnes of cargo in the first six months of 2023/2024.
"Only 10 million tonnes of cargo are remaining to meet the government's target. But, internally, we have forecasted to handle 24 million tonnes, therefore further exceeding the target," he said.
πŸ‘‰ Looking at the statistics and vessel arrivals, we are optimistics about meeting the 24 million tonnes target. Ports under the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) handled 24 million tonnes last financial year. But that amount would be handled only by the Dar es salaam port this year," he added.
πŸ‘‰ He said the last fiscal year, the Dar es salaam port handled 21.46 million tonnes, surpassing the 19.6 million tonnes target by over two million tonnes.
The handled amount also surpasses the 18 million tonnes of cargo handled in the 2021/2022 financial year, according to him.
πŸ‘‰ Mrisho said revenue data in the last six months from the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) shows that 40 percent of customs revenue comes from the Dar es salaam port.
"The port's efficiency directly links with the country's effectiveness in revenue collection. We are determined to further improve port efficiency to enable the country to meet its revenue collection targets," he said.
πŸ‘‰ He downplayed reports that tbe Dar es salaam port was overwhelmed with cargo to the extent that ships now opt for neighbouring facilitis.
"This is propaganda. Today, 38 ships are waiting to offload their cargo. Tomorrow (Monday, we are expecting the arrival of another 16. We are improving offloading speed by reducing the waiting time," he said. Mr Mrisho said the quantity of on - transit goods passing through the Dar es salaam port has increased by 20 percent, noting that shippers benefit from cargo destined for the seven landlocked countries.
πŸ‘‰ In order to address congestion, the construction project of a logistics centre wa being implemented at kurasini Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), increasing efficient use of inland container Depots (ICDs) and improving utilisation of the Kwala Inland Container Depot.
πŸ‘‰ The DMGP wa funded through a combination of funding initiatives from development partners and from the government's domestic revenue sources. The world bank extended a $345 million loan, the United Kingdom, via the Department for InternationalDevelopment (DfID), provided a $12.4 million grant, and the goverment contributed $63.4 million.
The project aims at deepening and upgrading seven of the port's berths, as well as deepening the entrance channel from 10.2 metres to 15.5 metres for a distance of kilometres and its width from 140 metres to 170 metres.
πŸ‘‰ Mrisho told journalist that the deepening and widening of the entrance channel have been completed, with the longest tourist's ship expected to dock at the Dar es salaam port on Tuesday.
"It is a 294-metre shi. The port is expected to dock ships up to 305 metres long. Experts have arrived from Germany and China, where they underwent training," he said, adding that the move will further improve port efficiency.
πŸ‘‰ Berth one to seven have their depth deepened to 14.5 metres from the previous seven to nine metres, according to Mr Mrisho.
"Unlike in the past, large ships carrying over 45,000 or 50,000 tonnes can now dock at the port, therefore further increasing its efficiency," he said.
πŸ‘‰ He said tbe berth used, specifically, for offloading motor vvehicles. It has a storage capacity of 6,000 vehicles at a time in a 72,000-square - kilometre area. According to him, the 2022/2023 data shows that tbe port capacity to handle vehicles has increased to between 250,000 to 300,000 annually.
πŸ‘‰ "Modern security systems, including 470 cameras, have been installed, therfore addressing reported incidents of theft of vehicles parts," he said.
He added that the Single Receiving Terminal (SRT) project is being implemented in the kurasini area to address the challenge of ships waiting and traffic.
πŸ‘‰ The project tht commenced this fiscal year will be completed after 48 months.
In order to further umprove port efficiency, berth 12 to 15 would be built as part of tbe port's expansion plan.

πŸ‘‰ This new service is expected to reduce cargo arrival time from China from six weeks (42 days) to three weeks (21 days), thereby improving Tanzania's business efficiency.
πŸ‘‰ Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian business community is set to benefit significantly from the launch of a new direct shipping route between China and the Dar es Salaam Port by Korea Marine Transport Company Limited (KMTC).
This new service is expected to drastically reduce the time it takes for cargo to arrive from China, from six weeks (42 days) to three weeks (21 days), boosting the efficiency of Tanzania's businesses.
πŸ‘‰ The arrival of the KMTC at the Dar es Salaam Port was made possible by the completion of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Project (DMGP).
This $440.4 million project, funded by a World Bank loan ($345 million), a grant from the UK's Department for International Development ($12.4 million) and the Tanzanian government ($63.4 million), deepened and upgraded seven of the port's berths, expanded the entrance channel from 10.2 metres to 15.5 meters for a distance of eight kilometres, and widened it from 140 metres to 170 metres.
πŸ‘‰ These improvements allow large vessels like the KMTC to smoothly access and dock at the port.
Commenting at the inauguration ceremony, Prof Godius Kahyarara, Permanent Secretary at the ministry of Transport, highlighted the importance of the DMGP in attracting KMTC's operations.
πŸ‘‰ He described the route as a "huge step" for the port and a "massive opportunity for business prosperity" between Tanzania and Asian countries.
He further emphasised the increased efficiency of the Dar es Salaam Port, which now operates 24 hours a day to accommodate the growing number of large ships.
πŸ‘‰ Looking ahead, Prof Kahyarara expressed optimism that the cargo transportation trend will further improve once the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) becomes operational, facilitating faster delivery of goods from ports to final destinations.
πŸ‘‰ Mr Mrisho Mrisho, the director of the Dar es Salaam Port, echoed these sentiments, pointing to the recent arrival of several large ships, including the Emirates Shipping vessel, as evidence of the port's growing capacity.
The KMTC's arrival, with its 1,500 containers of cargo, marks a significant development for Tanzania, not only benefiting domestic businesses but also serving clients in neighbouring landlocked countries.
