In 1977 Kenya Airways was born out of the regional airline-East African Airways. By that time Korea already had its aviation industry running (Korean Air) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) already had assigned them the code ‘KA’. By virtue of being ‘late’ Kenya was assigned the code KQ and it is the reason the Kenyan airline is referred to as KQ and not KA.

Why Kenya Airways is abbreviated as KQ and not KA

I geus the big question is that whether those 37 aircraft leases (if KQ only owns 3) are finance leases or operating. If anyone cared to read the financial statements of KQ .... which are publicly available btw, you will notice that the leases are finance leases. How finance leases work is that the lease runs over substantially the entire useful life of the asset. That means that upon expiry of the lease the aircraft will have a very minimal book value if any.

I dont see any difference between owning an asset or holding a finance lease over the asset. Its just a matter of cashflow management.

That means of the 4.2m international passengers through JKIA atleast close to 3 million were flown by KQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the person buying also takes responsibility of the mortgage payment which would mean the bank doesn't suffer any loss... In KQ's case the money from the sell of the airplane when to KQ and not a third party!!!! Try another theory!

kuna kitu kinaitwa off balance sheet. these assets can not appear on KQ balance sheet.

Kama unataka total debt then why are you saying Tanzania's debt to GDP ratio is 36%? You're very stupid. Tanzania's total national debt is $28 billion. Is $28 billion 36% of 55 billion?

Please, bring us proof that Kenya's debt is 70% of GDP maanake naona ni kama una kichaa.
